We are all very aware that the proposed Child’s Play remake, reboot, call it what you will has basically been in development hell for many years. The remake apparently has a script ready, written by Don Mancini who wrote all the previous movies, so whats the hold up?
Well, as we have reported before there was some rights issues between the two studios, MGM and Universal. MGM holds the rights to the original 1988 film while Universal holds the rights to the sequels so it was a right pickle.
So, recently, the guys over at MovieWeb are reporting that the two studios have put their differences aside and have worked out a deal. Also production is said to begin later this year with Brad Douriff reprises his role of Chucky’s voice.
After recent efforts in the Child’s Play franchise, were it drifted more towards comedy and forgot that Chucky is a freaking killer doll that is possessed by a serial killer. This one is said to have much darker tones and less of the comedy.
Now nothing at this point has been confirmed, so take this as yet more rumors in the proposed remake. I for one am hoping this takes shape as I would like to see chucky actually being scary again, but we shall see.
