Joss Whedon’s Cabin in the Woods is one of the most anticipated upcoming horror films that at this point has very little hope of seeing the light of day. Today in an interview with the New York Times Joss Whedon revealed that MGM is attempting to sell the rights to the project and frankly I am hard pressed to understand why any studio would not jump on the opportunity. Joss Whedon says that studios have shown interest in purchasing the movie and considering its built in fanbase that should be no surprise.
Joss Whedon has a massive built in fanbase because of the work he did on Buffy, Angel and most importantly Firefly and the movie based off the show Serenity. Joss Whedon also is doing the upcoming Avengers movie which is going to rocket him to new levels of mainstream movie fame.
If the studios are smart they will snatch up Cabin in the Woods and release it a few months after The Avengers hits theaters and use the momentum from The Avengers to help promote the project.
