Cabin In the Woods Release Date Set!

Oh yes my friends I come with outstanding news. Many of you must be like me severely annoyed that Cabin in the Woods has been sitting pretty much wasting away for the longest time. So you will be tickled pink with the news I bring!

Lionsgate will be releasing the long gestating and much maligned Cabin in the Woods into theaters on October 28th 2011 according to the Facebook page devoted to making this puppy a reality. This is Joss Whedon’s foray into horror and it is worth noting when I say maligned I do not mean by fans.

We have been begging to see this movie but with MGM having financial troubles the movie literally fell into the toilet. Lionsgate has taken on the project and I predicted that sombody would. My prediction was that somebody would pick it up and release it before or just after The Avengers movie to capitalize on Joss’s new mainstream fame but I forgot something.

Cabin in the Woods stars Chris Hemsworth who is starring in Marvels new THOR movie which just gives a studio even more reason to buy it and promote it. The buzz for the film is awesome and I for one am tickled pink to see a great director and a potentially awesome film finally get released.

As a fan of the “cabin in the woods” horror movie formula, I too have been eagerly waiting for this movie’s release. However, one thing that concerns me is that; with all the hype surrounding this movie (and is HAS been hyped for a few years now), what are the chances that the horror community isn’t affected by inflated expectations? This might very well be a great movie, but with hype comes VERY high expectations. I’m just hoping it lives up to mine. Any thoughts?

I totally see your point, but I think the Joss Whedon fanbase (myself included) is going to love it anyway just by virtue of the fact that it’s Joss Whedon. We Whedonites would acclaim a three hour movie about taking a shit if Joss made it.

Fair enough… I feel the same way about an Evil Dead remake/reboot. I really don’t care what they do with it. Well, that’s not accurate – I’d prefer a 4th installment, but I’ll take whatever they give me. Any new foray into the Evil Dead universe would make me moist.

Similarly, I’m pretty sure I’m going to dig Cabin in the Woods. It’s totally up my alley. I was just considering the mass and critical appeal. And, I’m trying to stoke some conversation! lol
