George Romero Directing Remake of Children Shouldnt Play With Dead Things

Written by: TheM

Children Shouldnt Play With Dead ThingsFangoria is going to be producing a remake of the classic zombie flick Children Shouldnt Play With Dead Things. This is not really earth shattering news since we have known this for awhile but today from Fearnet comes word that two icons of zombie filmmaking are involved.

Fearnet reports that George Romero will direct the project and legendary FX man Tom Savini has signed on to do the effects for the project. For die hard horror fans I am sure you are truly excited by this news but lets keep things in perspective.

As much as I am a huge fan of Romero’s and am his biggest fanboy I have found his latest films all carrying the byline ‘… of the dead’ have frankly been a big let down or mediocre at best. I am hoping with him making another stab at the genre that made him the icon he is we can get back to the calibre of his early films like Night, Day and Dawn of the Dead.

The original film was directed by Bob Clark and released in 1973. In the film six friends dig up a corpse named Orville which they then use in a satanic rite to revive the dead.

I was never a big fan of the original, but I am not sure how I feel about this news. On the one hand, I like that Romero and Savini will be involved, but on the other I am wondering is it really necessary. I feel as though I need to go back and revisit the original though.
