Insidious Reviews: The Horror Fan Verdict

Written by: TheM

Earlier in the week I shared with you all my honest take on Insidious and some of you agreed with me, some of you disagreed and some of you acted like small children :) In all seriousness though I found insidious a fun and somewhat creepy flick if somewhat cliche at times.

I expected that James Wan would do like he did with SAW and break all new ground and instead he delivered a reasonable supernatural tale but one that I felt was somewhat flawed when you consider the talent that James Has.

That said I am by no means bagging on Insidious or saying you should not see it. Compared to many other releases in the last 2 years Insidious is a creepfest and my closest comparison for the film is a tamed down Exorcist meets Paranormal Activity.

At the same time I posted my review I asked for your opinions on Insidious and the verdict is in. If you are not sure on whether or not you should go and see James Wan’s Insidious the overwhelming majority say you should! 80% of our readers voted that the film is worth seeing. 11% did not bother to go see it and 9% said its not worth seeing.

Synposis: When proud parents take possession of an old house, an accident results in one of their sons falling into a coma. The tragedy doesn’t stop there when they are beset by vengeful spirits from another realm in this new chiller by the director and writer of Saw and by the producers of Paranormal Activity. The film stars Rose Byrne, Barbara Hershey and Patrick Wilson.

Last time i screamed in a theater was when I saw Strangers. I saw insidious last night and screamed at least 4 times as much. This was a very good movie if you like to get scared.

I went with my boyfriend… it was okay, not at all scary. He fell asleep.

Loved it, in fact it put me in mind of something William Castle might have made – and I say that out of love and respect for Castle.

I went and saw with my 13 yr old daughter and we both loved it! Many unexpected things and that is what makes a movie more interesting! Excellent acting by all and filmed in the perfect haunted house! Kind of a bad ending but that just gives us hope that there will be a sequel!

Best horror movie i ever seen. I saw them all.lol I am twenty five with plenty of years watching my favorite genre. Horror movies as well as an author in the same category. Love the story line, music, the artistic style. Great acting and directing. I even had a hard time sleeping and that’s never happened before.. So in my opinion this is the best horror movie i have ever seen by a lot. Love this movie.

Although Insidious was, as previously stated, a watered down version of past “horror” flicks, I honestly do feel it was lacking that true “element” of the words “horror movie.” Though entertaining in its own sense, I feel that the climactic moments were still a bit lagging and the storyline, though able to capture the emotions of viewers, was still a bit droll. My only real objection with the film/statements about it is that Steve O’Brien of WCBS Radio stated “Most terrifying film since the EXORCIST”…are you kidding me? For people who originally watched the Exorcist all the way up into the “new genre” still have an undying respect for what that movie did for the horror movie industry. To compare this movie to that is an outrage. But I digress this is meerly my opinion and one that I would love to here any feedback possible from.
