Its Official Spike Lee Will Direct Oldboy RemakeSorry gang, the inevitable has happened. It was announced just last week, Spike Lee was in talks to helm the remake of Park Chan-Wook’s Oldboy and now it looks as if he has climbed aboard.

Variety is reporting that Spike Lee will direct the Oldboy remake for Mandate Pictures, Variety also reports that Mark Romanek was also in talks to helm the remake, but, Spike Lee eventually came out the victor.

Oldboy “revolves around a man who’s kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years. When he’s finally released and begins looking into the reason for his captivity, he soon finds out that his kidnapper has even more torturous plans for him.”

        Not sure here. I agree with him on race and social class issues, but none of that is what the original was about and he tends to be really heavy handed with his messages. Just like any remake or Americanized version of a foreign movie, I wonder how much of what made the original so good will survive. 

        Additionally, does anyone know if Will Smith is still attached? Because that right there is a guarantee against them getting my $8.50

        Well, we can look forward to seeing the setting changed to the hood, and the characters replaced by gang members.  This is one I will be skipping out on. :P
