Great review Jason. I can't wait to see this film and even more so now having read your review.

Trust me, if your work day goes sour or ends on a rather unpleasant note, do yourself a HUGE favor and catch this flick at the next immediate showing. Guaranteed to buckle your belly AND turn that frown upside down!!!! =D

Nice *spoiler-free* review, I anticipate it keeps up with all the gore and campiness of the previous two. I suppose one could hope for it getting a bit more intense and dark via the storytelling and mythos of VC, but hey, can't argue with a good ol' fashioned slaughtering in the swamp......And can't wait to see the cameos in it as well!

I also think that to call a movie "inspired by", one needs a bit more than a name of the book (which wasn't even Necronomicon in the first Evil Dead) or a similar premise (Carpenter never mentioned Lovecraft in connection with The Thing). Lucio Fulci's City of the Living Dead was sold in my country with H.P. Lovecraft's attached to it, yet the only Lovecraftian thing there was the name Dunwich. Now The Call of Cthulhu indie or Dreams in the Witch House from Masters of Horror series deserved a mention. There is also The Haunted Palace by Roger Corman which I yet have to see, but it is said to draw a lot of inspiration from The Case of Charles Dexter Ward.

Firestarter, 'salem's Lot, Christine, Gerald's Game if doable, The Shining, Misery, The Running Man...a lot of great King books got low-budget adaptations. It would be great to see them remade more faithfully with modern filmmaking technology and a bigger budget.
