10 Horror Movies to Watch on Netflix, Feb 15th 2011
This is the latest edition of our new regular feature where we look at what horror movies are currently on Netflix and make recommendations to you all.
Please note these titles are on the American Netflix so some may or may not be on the Canadian Netflix! Lets get right to the list.. shall we?

1. The Signal
This movie is chock full of moral dilemmas and bloody mayhem. There’s even a bit of dark humor thrown in.
A strange signal begins to air on all television and radio stations, causing a universal outbreak of unexplained schizophrenic homicidal tendencies.
While everyone’s running around killing each other in sadistic and creative ways, Mia tries to escape her abusive husband and reconnect with her lover before it’s too late.

2. Carriers
Fans of the zombie genre should see this one. It’s less about the skill of the kill and more about the deterioration of humanity.
A new viral pandemic to add to the genre, this movie features the daring Chris Pine and his brother, girlfriend, and brother’s girlfriend roaming the countryside in hopes for a sanctuary.
Encountering infected and healthy alike, the group has to make the hard decisions to survive. But they soon realize there’s more to fear than the unknown.

3. Doghouse
A fantastic British romp, this movie turns a simple virus spread into a battle between men and lady cannibals. To help their friend cope with his divorce, the fellas decide to take him to the remote village of Moodley, looking for naïve women to distract him.
And there are women alright, but they’re only interested in one thing; blood. A virus has turned all the females into man-hating cannibals and it’s up to the guys to stay alive.

4. Pontypool
A great psychological thriller, this is great addition to anyone’s collection. Grant Mazzy is just trying to be the best radio personality he can be under the station’s strict parameters.
But when an intriguing story intersects his usual broadcast he can’t help but latch on.
The people of the small Ontario town are beginning to attack one another while spewing out random gibberish phrases like broken drones.

5. Trollhunter
When several film students try to report on a suspicion of bear poaching in the Norwegian woods, the footage they capture instead is of a man who claims to be a troll hunter.
Revealing a surreal world amongst our own, the rest of the film carries on like a dark fairy tale; hearing the tales and seeing them in the flesh. This is a gem for the history books.

6. Let the Right One In
An amazing Swedish rendition of the vampire tale, this film takes place in a small town where large murders have been tearing through the way side.
Young Oskar is busy struggling against his school tormenters when he meets a new girl in his neighborhood, Eli.
There is something strange about his new friend, but she captures his heart and she helps him survive. A personal favorite, I highly recommend this.

7. Deadgirl
A twisted, gruesome look at what a young man is capable of, Deadgirl centers on two teenage boys who find a dead body in the basement of a mental hospital. But she’s not all dead.
Despite the supernatural and baffling nature of what they discover, JT decides to take advantage of the naked woman instead of doing anything to make matters better.
Though hard to watch, this is a great sadistic thriller.

8. Thirst
A Japanese masterpiece, this film portrays a priest willing to sacrifice himself to an experiment that could potentially safe lives. Unfortunately, finding a cure only killed more people, except him.
After surviving the ordeal, he finds himself changed in all sorts of new ways.
Mainly, he’s a vampire, and his new life has veered him away from his lawful ways, allowing him to have an affair with the wife of his best friend. The story told here spans over many years and it’s awesome to watch.

9. Vanishing on 7th Street
Taking an ordinary day like today and making it another end of the world scenario is what this film does.
We get to watch John Leguizamo and Hayden Christensen survive a world with no light where evil lurks amongst the darkness.
As they adapt to their new environment, they’re forced to wonder if life is even worth living anymore, while the souls of those who have died haunt them.

10. The Dark Hours
This is a mentally jarring thriller told around the disheartened psychiatrist Samantha Goodman dealing with some heavy stuff while her husband and sister cozy up in an isolated cottage.
She joins them, only to have their little vacation interrupted by a patient of hers that has some serious issues and wishes to psychoanalyze the doc for a change.
Watch carefully because there are some shocking revelations in store.
