Chronicle Battles The Woman in Black At the Box Office

Well, February is shaping up to be a very good month at the box-office as not just one, but three genre films have made it to the top three position with Josh Trank’s Chronicle battling James Watkins’ The Woman in Black to the number one spot.
It’s a very close battle, but only one film could come out at number 1 and that one is Josh Trank’s Chronicle according to Deadline, just beating out Watkins’ The Woman in Black by a mere $300,000. Over the weekend. Chronicle has raked in an estimated $22 million, while The Woman in Black took $21 million.
Both films did much better than expected, they have over-performed and it wouldn’t surprise me if a sequel or even a trilogy sprang up for Chronicle.
Also, Joe Carnahan’s The Grey is still making headway, coming in at the number three spot with an estimated cume of $34.6M.
So all in all an exceptional time for genre films and it proves once again that films don’t need bucket’s of cash to be good, just a simple idea executed brilliantly.
