The Walking Dead S2: Episode 8 ‘Nebraska’ Review
Written by: Lola Savage
The first half of Season 2 honestly didn’t have much going for it. We had a missing girl, a couple of hook-ups, and a farm. So as the season resumed, there was plenty of room for stronger conflict. And we got it. As Carol deals with finally knowing exactly what happened to her daughter, and Hershel and Maggie dealing with officially losing their family, we have plenty of emotional strife to witness. At the same time, Dale finally reveals to someone, Lorie, exactly how terrible he thinks Shane is and his theory (a good one) on what really happened to Ottis.
Such a relief to get that out! Meanwhile, when Hershel vanishes into town to get drunk, Rick runs off to save the day again with Glen as his sidekick. But Hershel fights Rick’s attempt to help, and it gives two strangers the opportunity to mosey their way into our little world. We know as soon as they step on screen they’re no good. And Rick knows it too. They try to pry their way onto Hershel’s sanctuary farm but Rick won’t let that happen. Getting fed up with her superhero husband, Lorie goes after Rick to bring them back sooner. But before she gets very far, she makes the fatal mistake of taking her eyes off the road and violently flips her car after hitting a walker. AH!
I continue to watch this series because of how fantastic the story is and the weight of the performances. There are very few things I can ever find wrong with these episodes. I really appreciated Carol’s response to finding her daughter as a walker. And at the same time Hershel finally understanding what Rick and his group thought of the walkers was such a relief.
You always hoped he’d eventually come around. Shane used to be a seemingly good guy and now is almost the source of all deviousness. You just keep thinking he’s got to rebel against anything Rick, the obvious protagonist, decides upon. And while Darryl used to always strike me as an angry redneck, has now become more of a soft-hearted hillbilly. So I’m really enjoying how the characters continue to change and grow.
So keep watching guys because there’s plenty more where that comes from.
