Top 10 Horror Movie Kills: With my Own Bare Hands

Carrion 14 Comments

I’ve recently done some Top Ten kills using chainsaws or gardening tools.  Sometimes a vicious edged weapon isn’t the right tool for the job.  Sometimes you just gotta get right in there with your hands and get messy.  Nothing is more intimate than taking someone out with your bare hands.  Ask Chuck Norris.  I came up with my own top ten list to cover this off.  Hope you enjoy it!

1.  Hatchet.

While messing around in the swamp, a tour group tangles with Victor Crowley. Jim and Shannon get it the worst. Victor cleaves Jim literally in half with . . .um . . .a hatchet. Style points on this one as Victor butchers Jim in front of his wife. She doesn’t have long to grieve as Victor grabs her and pulls the top of her head off. It looks like he’s opening some grotesque tin of puppy food.

2.  Dead Snow.

You know the situation. Trapped in a cabin in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by nazi zombies. We’ve all been there, right? Well, it’s the first time for this group of young Norwegians. In fact, they’re pretty much losing their shit. What doesn’t help the panic is watching one of your buddies get his head ripped to pieces by some ghoul who just came through the wall. The eye gouge that starts it off is classic.

3.  Alone in the Dark (1982).

How can you go wrong with a slasher movie that stars actual A list celebrities? Jack Palance, Donald Pleasance and Martin Landau turn in great performances in this movie, however my star is Elster, the massive guy. Apparently Erland Van Lidth (Elster) was an ex-weight lifter. The scene where he grabs Bunky by the throat and lifts her off the floor was done with no special effects. I’m surprised he didn’t strangle her for real. That takes power and talent. Tom Savini should also get a shout out for Toni’s monster hallucination.

4.  Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky.

This movie is absurd and completely over the top. Oscar attempts suicide by disemboweling himself. However, when Ricky approaches Oscar to try and stop the suicide, Oscar grabs his own intestines in a hardcore move and wraps them around Ricky’s neck, trying to strangle him.

That takes guts. *cringe*

Anyway, that doesn’t work as Ricky flips Oscar in the air and before he lands, finishes him with a fatal blow to the jaw.

5.  Rambo.

Wait, wait! Hear me out on this one. I know this seems stupid, but let me explain. This recent installment in the franchise is WAY more violent and gory than its cheesy 80s counterparts. This movie is FILLED with blood and gore. It plays out more like Saving Private Ryan than Rambo. In my favorite scene of the movie, Rambo actually rips this guy’s throat out with his bare hands.

6.  Friday the 13th part 3D.

Yeah, yeah, I know I’ve used this before. What can I say, this scene is beautifully crafted. Jason crushes Rick’s head so hard, his eye pop out . . and comes right at us in 3 wonderful D.

7.  Alone in the Dark (1982).

Back to Elster again. During the escape, Elster and Preacher run into Curtis. Preacher stuns him by kicking him in the face and Elster “dead-lifts” him straight off the ground and over his head in one move. ONE MOVE! Unbelievable power. Then he brutally shatters Curtis’ back across his knee.

8.  Dead Man’s Shoes.

I have never seen a more intense movie than this one. If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favour and watch it. Richard gets his revenge on one of his brothers tormentor’s by a lethal palm strike to the face. It’s a great scene that very slowly gets to this point, keeping you on the edge of your seat the whole time.

9.  Return of the Living Dead, part 3.

Maybe not hands, but teeth are a good second best.

10.  Hellraiser 2.

In this demented scene, Pinhead attacks this poor guy through a bed and in a pretty cruel move, shoves his hand in the back of the guy’s skull.

Day of the Dead.

Rhodes, you wacky bastard. You nearly made it through the movie. Things were looking good right up until the part where you got pulled in half by a group of zombies.

Did you know? In the Day of the Dead scene where Rhodes is getting pulled apart and eaten, the actor ad-libbed the line, “Choke on it”, referring to his intestines. We all know that zombies can’t choke, so it isn’t likely to happen. The more you know, the more I grow.

Great list! each pic made my stomach go ick! Especially Dead man’s shoes. No matter how many times I watch it, it still stands as the most intense movie I’ve ever seen and that scene makes me feel sick every time.

Jesus Christ that is sad.  That’s not Pinhead killing the guy in the bed, it’s Uncle Frank.  How the hell did you not know that?

        • jenn lauren June 19, 2012 at 2:08 pm

it’s not uncle frank. it’s julia.

        • Wesley Uhl June 22, 2012 at 6:52 am

Pretty sure that was Julia in part 2.

it IS Julia in that part……Carrion clearly didn’t see the flick. Possibly he didn’t do his homework??? lol

how about Robtert Shaw sliding into the shatrk’s mouth?most of the saw murders, the hero in the original night of the living dead getting shot at the end, the body parts he’d assembled coming to life and killing the protagonist of mannequin

What about the guy that gets diced all at once by a giant mesh screen in CUBE? That is by far the best movie death.

      7. Mark February 17, 2013 at 11:08 pm

Deadly Friend should have also made the list. When the girl/robot throws the basketball at the woman’s head making it explode was awesome.

What doesn’t get a lot of due attention is Silent Hill. The scene in front of the church when Triangle head grabs this young lady, lifts her up by her neck, then proceeds to tear off all her cloths in one motion. Dangling there naked and completely helpless, Triangle head then proceeds to get a good handful of her flesh and tears it clean off her body. It’s pure poetry.

Gotta add 13 ghosts when the lawyer gets sliced in half from head to to by a glass overhead door.

…I have to admit to a soft spot for Thirteen Ghosts (the modern one) and a lot of that is the Alone In The Dark lift-and-break move the Juggernaut makes. And the guy that gets vertically bisected by a sliding glass door.

He was referring to kills in horror movies that are done with the killers bare hands. That is why some of the movies that have been mentioned by others. But there has been some mentioned that didn’t make the list. I agree with the Silent Hill church scene. Freddy should have at least got a mention even though it wasn’t that scary. Maybe Jaws could have made the list because sharks don’t have hands.
