Brett Simmons Raises the Dead with Monkey’s Paw

Chris Savage

There has always been one film that I’ve been meaning to see and that is Wesley Ruggles’ 1933 adaptation of W.W. Jacobs’ horror short story The Monkey’s Paw, but I’ve just never got round to it, perhaps now is the perfect time I head into the vault.

As it appears as if a new adaptation of the classic horror story is once again making the rounds, but this time it appears as if Brett Simmons (Husk) is on directing duties according to B-D.

Macon Blair will be penning the updated adaptation which follows “follows Jake Tilton who, after scoring the creepy “monkey’s paw” from a co-worker, finds his life completely flipped upside down after making a pair of wishes. (We’re told one wish resurrects his best friend Tony Cobb from the dead into a sort of unkillable zombie.) Cobb pressures Jake into using his final wish to reunite Cobb with his son, but Tony has other plans. He must outwit his psychotic friend who’s on a murder spree.”

Filming is said to take place in New Orleans this September.

The 1933 film is missing, so perhaps now is not the perfect time to watch it. It would be great if someone could unearth a copy, but no luck thus far.
