Its been nearly a year now since we first reported on the big-screen adaptation of the classic BBC RentaGhost. The last we heard was that Ben Stiller was attached and that Russell Brand was also set to star, it still appears that is the case, but the film now has a new director.

According to Variety, animation director Tom McGrath (pictured right) has been attached to direct the upcoming film RentaGhost, this will mark, McGrath’s first live-action directing gig.

The film will also see McGrath teaming once again with Ben Stiller after previously working together on Madagascar.

Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant (Night at the Museum) are penning the script based on the “BBC childrens’ comedy skein that ran for 58 episodes between 1976 and 1984. It centers on a recently deceased 27-year-old man who, determined to be more productive in the afterlife, creates RentaGhost, leasing ghouls, ghosts and other specters to the living.”
