All of Dante Tomaselli’s films have a real nightmare quality to them. His next project, Torture Chamber, has finally been finished and it will premiere at this year’s Sitges festival in Spain, screening on Wednesday, October 10. according to Fangoria. Of course when one project ends another begins. Tomaselli will start work on his long gestating remake of Alice, Sweet Alice.
“The film will retain the original’s unique ’70s, Italian/Catholic, Paterson, New Jersey, giallo-esque look. It’s definitely a period piece. We’re keeping the famous mask and yellow raincoat, and it still centers on Alice and her religious family stalked by murder…but with some new twists. Yes, I raise my eyebrows whenever I hear of any remake, but this is not just another soulless rehash. Alfred and I have been wanting to work together for a while now, and he knows his bizarre, scary film has influenced me so much, and was a staple of my childhood. ALICE, SWEET ALICE is THE GODFATHER of ambitious indie horror. My relatives were extras in the original, I knew all the locations and my father, who owned a jewelry/bridal store, provided the communion dresses and white gloves.”
Plot to Torture Chamber: A shocking family portrait. A boy oozing blood and saliva, bound by ropes and handcuffs, imprisoned in an animal cage. A deeply religious mother who believes her son is controlled by the devil. A Catholic priest devoted to saving his family, who tries to cure his deranged younger brother – but 13-year-old Jimmy Morgan is possessed by an evil too powerful to be exorcised by any religion. After escaping from a mental institution, Jimmy is back with a vengeance – and an army of children who follow his every murderous desire. The town trembles in fear as the youths attack and abduct its residents – innocent and guilty alike – dragging their victims to an abandoned castle and subjecting them to grisly torments deep within its underground tunnels. Those who discover the terrible secret behind the disappearances and deaths don’t live long enough to tell it. The teacher, the doctor, even Jimmy’s own brother and mother, will all confront their fates in the Torture Chamber.
