Wait. What? Yep, we’ve hardly heard much on the first Pacific Rim film yet alone another. But, this is actually becoming more common than you would think. If a studio see’s a buzz or for example where test scores are high, a sequel is often put into development before the first film has even been released. But c’mon, who can blame them, this is Guillermo del Toro we are talking about here, his track record speaks for itself.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Travis Beacham, who wrote the initial treatment for Pacific Rim, has been tapped to pen the script for the sequel, which will also see del Toro co-write alongside.
At his time it is unclear and still to early to say if del Toro will be returning to helm the sequel, but the groundwork is being laid as we speak.
Pacific Rim “centers on a defense force consisting of mechas, giant robots and their human pilots, who are fighting to save humanity from gigantic monsters invading from an other-worldly dimension.”
Pacific Rim is set to hit theatres on July 12, 2013.
