Lovely Molly Review

As the rest of our crew are posting and polishing up their Top 10 Horror Movie Lists for 2012 I am busy catching a few last minute films that I missed this year. Lovely Molly is one such movie and it turns out I was not missing much.

Lovely Molly has made quite a few Top 10 lists on various sites and I am sure will make a few lists amongst my fellow writers here but for me Lovely Molly was to much and to little all in the same breath. I loved its scope, the look and feel and the intensity was overwhelming but it still was a massive let down.

Lovely Molly is a complex story at its heart about family trauma but in a nut shell it breaks down to a woman who is tumbling into a psychotic state. She is literally going insane and we the viewers get to watch her mental instability grow and the results it has on her surroundings.

On paper this movie should have been great because it definitely has a strong premise. Woman marries love of her life, moves into old and quaint family home, goes bat sh*t crazy and then starts taking it out on everyone around her. Its a slow burn and it packs a great cast but my biggest issue with Lovely Molly is the suspense and lack of satisfaction.

I love a movie with suspense but for me I need a finish. Perhaps its because I drank one to many glasses of wine last night or maybe I am not as astute as some of you but I just did not find the ending of Lovely Molly rewarding.

It felt like my clothes were washed, thrown in the spin dryer and taken out to early and thrown on me wet. Is wearing clean but wet clothes good? Nah I would rather just not wear clothes much like I would much rather not have seen this movie.

Lovely Molly tried really hard to please but for me it just completely missed the mark. I am giving this one a 2.5 out of 5. Given all its hype I expected a lot more.
