Cheap Thrills Takes Home Audience Award

Jason McDonald

It’s finally all over! This will probably be the very last time we mention SXSW on this site.  Until I start speculating about SXSW 2014. Oh God, I can’t wait!  For now though, we have the winner of the “Midnighters Audience Award.”

This is the award given to films that were showcased under the Midnight banner, which generally features horror films and similar genres.  This year the SXSW audience decided to give the prize to Cheap Thrills which coincidentally was also one of the first films purchased for distribution.   Clearly there’s a great deal of love for this movie, I can’t wait till we get a chance to see it.

Cheap Thrills tells the story of a new father facing eviction whose life is turned upside down when he meets a wealthy couple who offer a path to a better life…but at a price. The film is directed by E.L. Katz and stars Pat Healy, Ethan Embry, David Koechner, and Sara Paxton

Kiss of the Damned also won a prize for “Excellence in Poster Design.”  Which it also won during the official SXSW awards.  Say what you will about the movie, that is one fine poster.
