It seems the trend to pursue horror films are catching quite on for most first-time directors of the genre. From Arthouse director, Brillante Mendoza to well-known Malaysian comedy director Adrian Teh. He has decided to put the sequel to his comedy, “The Wedding Diary 2”, on hold to pursue a yet-to-be-titled horror film. It has been slated that shooting for this will begin sometime around this month.
“Looking at the kind of horror films that are showing in local cinemas these days, there are not enough truly horrifying films; therefore, I want my upcoming horror film will be purely horror, not comedy horror”, said Teh.He added, “I hope that my film can help create more demand for Malaysian films from international audiences as our film industry needs all the help and support it can get” and that he wants the audience to “find his next films to be better the last, instead of mindlessly churning out one film after another.”
He just might be right about that. Horror in Hollywood has been going through the wrong mainstream and international audiences nowadays aren't easily scared. Maybe this just might be a good turn point for Teh and the Malaysian film industry.
So far, there aren't any further news about his upcoming film but I'm definitely going to look into it and post updates.
