Wes Craven Talks Future Scream Movies

I don't know about you guys, but I loved Scream 4. I loved it so much that I hoped they would just kill the franchise right then and there. Don't get me wrong, in a perfect world I would want a Scream 5. However, we don't have that luxury. We live in the real world where horrible mistakes are made all the time. Scream 4 seemed to be the perfect way to put a cap on the franchise. It brought everyone back for one last hoorah and provided a decent commentary on the current state of horror. What more could possibly be said?

No one cares about what I want though and the rumor mill keeps chugging away with whispers of a follow up to the series. Whispers that even include talk of a TV show. I'll let Wes Craven tell you in his own words below in an excerpt from an Arrow in the Head interview.

So far I have not heard anything about SCREAM 5 from Bob Weinstein. There is some talk about a television series, but I don't think anything has moved forward on that yet. That's what I'm hearing more than anything else from the guys at Dimension. It would be them picking up the phone and asking me if I wanted to play with them, so…

With Kevin Williamson (original Scream writer) dipping his toe in the TV genre with the slasher-esque show The Following, it definitely seems like Scream could find a home on television. What say you? What do you want the next installment of the Scream franchise to be?

Scream 4 missed a trick. They should have killed the original cast members off whilst integrating a new group of survivors to route for. I would love the franchise to revive itself with something fresh but, ironically, the scream films have become stale and unoriginal. Loved the first Scream but its been a downward slide since.

As big of a scream fan as I am, I agree with Ash. Scream 4 was a huge let down. Badly cast, written, and poorly acted by the new people added accept Hayden Panettiere. But Kirby felt more a replacement for Randy then her own character. Also the killers weren’t surprising just disappointing.
