Lawrence Gilliard Jr. Officially Joins the Walking Dead

Jason McDonald

We told you it was coming earlier this week and now it’s official.  The ink has dried on the paper and Lawrence Gilliard Jr. has officially become the newest cast member of AMC’s The Walking Dead.

Lawrence, who previously worked on The Wire, has been brought in to play the part of Bob Stookey.  Originally we told you that the character’s name was Roy Stark, but that seems to have changed since then.  What remains the same though is the character’s description.  It sounds like he’s playing a slightly altered version of Sgt. Abraham who appeared in the Walking Dead comics.  Here’s how the character is being described: “He’s a former Army medic who is deeply haunted by his past — both before and after the apocalypse. He’s a loner, though he maintains a charming yet self-deprecating façade.”

It’ll be interesting to see how he’s implemented into the show.  Will he wind up with Rick and the others at the prison?  Or will The Governor pick him up as a new lackey?  Shooting on the new season begins this May, but we’ll have to wait till October to know for sure.
