Walking Dead Season 4 : Kirkman Hints at Rick’s Death!

Herner Klenthur

The Walking Dead Sorrowful 3Walking Dead Season 4 it seems could be in for a ton of shocking twists one of which will no doubt piss off fans and in my humble view unsettle the entire show. AMC’s The Walking Dead has continued to smash ratings records and draw in fans by the millions and it does this with an outstanding cast of characters but can the show go on and succeed with its leading man?

Robert Kirkman answered a pile of fan questions about the series and Season 4 of The Walking Dead and one really struck a note with me which was will Rick Grimes survive? Robert Kirkman responded to the question by saying that Rick Grimes was not out-of-bounds and we can expect his death at almost any point so don’t rule it out.

He also goes on to say that he would like to see Daryl, Maggie or Glen step up and take the leadership role from Rick Grimes.

I am a huge Daryl fan and think that the character has evolved immensely but Daryl needs a character like Rick Grimes to balance the group and Glen or Maggie do not offer that. Glen and Maggie also do not offer much as far as a true leadership role goes and should Rick Grimes die I think its safe to say the group would turn to Daryl before Maggie or Glen. Do I think they will kill off Rick Grimes in Season 4 of The Walking Dead? I sure as hell hope not and I honestly do not believe they are that stupid.

Robert Kirkman seems to think the show and the ‘group’ can survive without Rick Grimes saying as much in an interview on the AMC Blog As far as ‘killing off characters including Rick Robert Kirkman says the actors are consulted in the process;

They get as much input into their death scene as any actor does in any scene. It’s a back and forth, and there are a lot of discussions that go between writers and directors and actors. As far as when they find out that they’re dying, usually it’s a call before the script comes out. It’s very late in the process. We try to be really mindful of the actor’s process — we don’t want an actor to play a scene differently because they know they’re going to die.

Perhaps with the new character Rob Stark which everyone speculates is in fact Abraham the shows producers thinks they can kill off Rick without much risk but I for one thing its a bad move. Frankly the only thing worse would be if they kill off Daryl who has really evolved into a big fan favorite some would say a bigger fan favorite then the key character Rick himself.

We might as well now before we move on address the Abraham rumor. Many people think that the casting call that went out for the new character Rob Stark is actually Abraham but one of our well read readers who knows the Graphic Novels well thinks we all have it wrong. It’s not Abraham at all according to Melissa Maynard who writes to us saying;

People need to read the novels. Abraham will not be introduced in the show yet according to the rob stark casting call. The description of rob stark is way closer to a character named bob stooky. He is mostly in the novels but he is the man who saves the gov after michonne was done with him.

Producers of the show are going to move far away from the comics but nab a bit of storytelling from the novels. Introducing Abraham in season 4 is just so unlikely to me. Abe is introduced way after the prison. plus there is Tyrese still in the show. don’t get me wrong. i would love to see Abe in the show. just not this season or the next. Just my opinion.

It’s a great observation by Melissa and not one I can dispute. If you have your own theory hit the comments below. Moving on, The Walking Dead Season 4 as we had speculated earlier in the week and Robert Kirkman has confirmed is going to focus heavily on Carl’s transformation from pre-teen to young adult and the struggles he faces.

I also believe that we will see Carl develop a love interest with Beth, Hershel’s youngest daughter. I think that adding a teen romance angle into the show will connect with younger teen viewers but also will not alienate older viewers who are tuning in for the subject and not a ‘twilight’ experience.

Carl Grimes ended Season 3 on a shocking note by murdering one of the fleeing marauders from the Governors group in cold blood leading to a show down with his father. The tension between Carl and his father over that incident was palpable and really sets the stage for a conflict in Walking Dead Season 4. Robert Kirkman promises that their will be some shocking twists in the relationship between Rick and Carl and I look forward to it.

The Walking Dead has always been as much about the human story as the zombies and I think an inter family conflict between Carl and Rick Grimes, a little puppy love and an amped up zombie presence will make for some awesome television.

The shows producer Gale Anne Hurd in an interview with IGN has said that Season 4 and other season moving forward will once again be more about the zombies who have become something background objects throughout season 3 and have become less than terrifying. In Season 4 apparently the zombies will once again be front and center and a big part of the story and the fear factor.

One other common question we hear on site is will Morgan return? A great question and its one I also want to see answered. Although we saw Morgan briefly in Season 3 I was hoping to see him truly return to Rick’s side. Robert Kirkman indicated that although he can’t say when we will see Morgan we should definitely not rule it out.

Walking Dead Season 4 will begin shooting May 4th and will air on AMC and on Demand ( which is how I watch it ) in October of 2013. Would you watch The Walking Dead if Rick is killed off? Sound off in the comments.

Addressing Melissa Maynard’s comments. She does have a solid point although there is a lot that changes from a novel to a tv show. That said the characters could change in looks or even name through out the series to throw people off and have a few more “wow did that just happen moments” for everyone. It could be either of them or neither, time does randomly seem to fly by from season to season.

          Great comment.

If you read the comic books then you will realise that rick doesn’t die he just gets his arm chopped off but that’s in the last season so there’s nothing to worry about with rick dying cause it doesn’t happen

        • Bree Turnock July 11, 2013 at 8:18 am

ROSA!! If a TV series is kinda related to a comic or book things that are done in the comic don’t always happen in the TV series

        • krubior September 8, 2013 at 5:58 am

Rick is the heart and soul of the show. No Rick, no show.

        • thewalkingdeadfanatic January 10, 2014 at 2:22 am

you guys DO realize that saying “no, they wont kill off rick!” makes it more of a SHOCKER. Robert Kirkman said that 1 of this seasons deaths would be a ‘real shocker’ so you guys are making it happen. also, did anyone notice that the last 4 seasons have had a picture of rick- this seasons poster focuses on Carl. to be honest i would rather say bye to rick, not Carl, nor Daryle. let the show do what it does- after all, that’s what keeps us watching!

      2. TaintRancherson April 20, 2013 at 4:39 pm

First I want to say that although your articles are consistently interesting and to the point, you really need to work on grammar. A lot of articles here lately have been difficult to read because of that.

But I feel the comment made that suggested there wasn’t an adequate leader figure in the group. Ricks assurance makes it a lot easier on them and I believe even though Daryl has really grown up, he’d still be a bit too reckless to lead the group. Glenn also needs more time for his balls to grow a bit more.

You meant “Rick’s” I think. And using “more” twice in a sentence is awkward…just sayin’!

        • Deborah September 6, 2013 at 4:40 pm

do you know what a “taint” is taintrancherson? Its the spot between your balls and but hole. Don’t comment on peoples spelling or grammer….its rude

        • mythoughts September 7, 2013 at 3:33 am

Ok 1st i have to say WTF really a grammar comment like WTF there is nothing more annoying than someone on chats complaining about grammar STFU. 2nd i don’t think they are so stupid that they would kill off Rick or Daryl so early in the show, they gotta save those deaths for the end of the series with some touching moment or something. So yes if either of them died so early in the series i would lose interest in the show.

        • Marilyn September 10, 2013 at 3:46 pm

Oh no…you can’t kill off Rick or Daryl. It will ruin the show. As for grammar Taint, its a freaking blog, not English 101.

      3. Sean Carney April 20, 2013 at 4:58 pm

Andrea’s death was a big blow, I am also a great Daryl fan, but i have to agree he is more a nomad, then a leader. Short term he shall lead well, but in for the long haul holding the group together, No.

        • Herner Klenthur April 20, 2013 at 5:04 pm

Well said Sean. I agree 100%

        • Debra Gallagher May 27, 2013 at 2:56 am

I totally disagree about Daryl, I think he would be a great leader. Rick if he died I wouldn’t be surprised as he takes too many stupid chances. Yes I would continue to watch if Rick died, but not if Daryl did, that would stop me in my tracks and never watch again.

        • Annette Johnson June 6, 2013 at 3:06 pm

No i will not darly n rick r the only ones im really worried about dying n i dnt wnt to c that happen jus becuz he wuz loosing his mind i rlly think he is the bedt leader becuz staying alive for his daughter is important n son n maggie n glenn love then as they r but id think they cud lead a fly becuz they will prob have sex in the middle of a war look wut happen wen they were suppose to keep watch but i think even if darly is one of the most likes it prob wnt b n e more seasons after this if rick is gone n it will b people watching but i truley believe it wnt b as many people watching.

Rob Stark sounds like iron man… Just sayin’ …Iron mans name in the movies is Tony Stark. The guy who plays Tony Stark is Robert Downey Jr… ROBert STARK… Coincidence?!?!? I Think so! haha.

i would be bummed if rick died ad Not watch the show as often

      6. Amanda K April 20, 2013 at 5:57 pm

Rick IS The Walking Dead and I will not watch any longer if they decide to kill him off.

        • Brian June 14, 2013 at 3:18 am

Me neither. I really like Rick and find him a really interesting lead character. More interesting than most lead protagonists in similar dramas. The whole story has been about him and you simply cannot end that story and expect to continue the series. The only two characters I absolutely will not tolerate dying are Rick and Daryl. Anyone else, go ahead. Expect maybe Carl, as the show is almost as much about hi story as it is Rick’s.

        • js4strings December 6, 2013 at 10:26 pm

I’m with you two, Rick is the main character on the show and the graphic novels, if Rick dies I.ll be Seacrest out.

        • Clayton Frazier January 1, 2014 at 2:54 am

I was about to say what Amanda K posted. We’re so emotionally invested in Rick, and all the plot lines are connected to him; the show will be over, basically. Daryl is not enough of a complex character to carry the show. If Rick died, who else would follow the lead?

        • Jeannette February 27, 2014 at 4:17 am

What is kirkman thinking man if Rick dies it’s over no more walking dead for me and I know I speak for a lot more other fans dumb move!!

        • Darryl Utter March 27, 2014 at 8:27 pm

I would also be done with this show if Rick dies, this show is already starting to go down hill.

      7. Joan April 20, 2013 at 6:14 pm

Excited for the new season. Hoping they keep Rick around for a long while… I’m ready for the surprises, that’s what keeps me coming back…

      8. Michael Chikwendu April 20, 2013 at 6:45 pm

They better not kill Rick off. There is no way I’m going to continue without him and daryl. Awesome article.

        • Jeannette February 27, 2014 at 4:20 am

          I agree Micheal

      9. Yusef April 20, 2013 at 7:10 pm

If rick dies I am most likely not to watch it cuase the story is based on him and surving

      10. luzldolin April 20, 2013 at 9:51 pm

I thought The Walking Dead was about Rick and how he changes throughout the whole story. I guess Kirkman doesn’t want the show to be like the novels.

      11. Eric April 20, 2013 at 10:10 pm

I won’t watch it if Rick gets killed off

      12. jason moore April 20, 2013 at 10:22 pm

it all started with rick so it should finish with rick they cant kill him of in season 4 im a really big fan of the walking dead and to me rick is the show we are following his story

        • Kelly April 21, 2013 at 8:49 pm

I think that a romance would definitely help…. although Glen asked Hershel for Maggie’s hand, the whole relationship came to a screeching halt on screen. Please continue that…. Without Rick and Laurie, we need a strong, solid couple to remind us of our inner human feelings… The basis of why we do everything we do on this show. Why we fight so very hard to survive. And the chance at a new generation. After all, isn’t that the whole point?

        • Dave April 28, 2013 at 3:41 pm

Tyreese and Michonne will eventually hook up.

      13. James April 20, 2013 at 11:27 pm

        Maybe Carl kills rick….

      14. Ricktator April 21, 2013 at 1:09 am

He’s going nowhere…or Daryl, they would risk losing too many viewers without them….all others would not pose same risk…even Carl.

      15. Deb April 21, 2013 at 3:47 am

Sorry, I’ve been able to handle all the main character deaths so far, but without Rick, it becomes a whole new story…one which this viewer would not be a fan of. I watch mainly to see what the heck is going to happen next to RICK. To remove him from the show is suicide. They will lose to many viewers as they would if they were stupid enough to kill Daryl. I for one, would not watch or look forward to the show if Rick was not in it. DUMB MOVE in my opinion, and the grammer comment, seriously….. lol

        • Brian June 14, 2013 at 3:24 am

It truly would be about the dumbest thing any TV series could ever do. Like you said, it becomes a whole new story, a whole new series. If they want to do spin off series, that would be great. I for one would enjoy watching other characters in this zombie apocalypse and learning their stories, but you can’t just kill off the main character, whose story we’ve followed since the very beginning, and expect to continue the same series. It just doesn’t work. If there is one good thing I can say about LOST, it’s that from the beginning to the end the story was about Jack’s story. Of course many other characters were introduced and their stories were told as well, but at the center was Jack, the main character. The series began with him, and ended with him. That is how dramas with ensemble casts are supposed to be. If they want to end The Walking Dead with Rick’s death, fine, but don’t expect to kill him off early in the series and viewers to keep watching afterward.

        • Gabe June 14, 2013 at 11:22 pm

Obviously they are not going to kill of RIck…it was just a tease. And what is up with all you guys! No one stopped watching when Shane died, no one stopped watching when Dale died, no one stopped watching when Lori died, or Andrea’s sister…Ect. So why stop watching if your “favorite” dies. If this was real life, I’m sure Rick couldn’t “stop watching” when T-Dog died. Lol

        • Jonathan High McLaurine August 13, 2013 at 7:14 am

Yes omg lol. People saying don’t kill em or we will quit watching!! I call bullshit lol. I love Darryl but since the beginning the only one safe is Carl. The kids are the future. Rick needs to die at some point for Carl to take the reigns. So Darryl will die also. Also read what kirkman said ” you wanna threaten me that yo will quit watching because you don’t want me to kill Darryl. Dare me” morons. Your killing your favorite character. Just like the morons who sent Andrea hate mail because she shot Darryl ? Are you kidding me your ruining the show! All of them will die at some point just like breaking bad! The point of these shows is the world and life you live. The comics and novels about rick. Kirkman hinted LNG ago about Carl beth Judith are the future. Darryl and rick and rest of cast are just a story about the people who taught Carl how to survive. I hope they kill of rick Darryl and Maggie. Glen commits suicide and Herschel dies in sleep. Carl is gonna become the most liked character because your favorite characters are teaching him how to survive here in TWD world. If you don’t wanna watch Cuz they die. Then your not a Walking dead fan. Your gay on Darryl and rick. LoL be funny if you find out them two be jackn each other. Whoa spoiler there!

      16. Hello ;) April 21, 2013 at 4:35 am

As long as Carol and Daryl are safe, I’ll continue to watch! :)

      17. Beatriz April 21, 2013 at 7:54 am

I Want More and more walking dead with Rick and 2 days a week 1 day is not enough

      18. caja88 April 21, 2013 at 4:35 pm

I’d really hate to see Rick get chopped but if it happened. maybe prior to his death, the group could somehow be split up and for a few episodes show how each one reacts to intense situations both zombie and human on a singular level. maybe that would personalize each member and let us see who may or may not have the leadership quality.

      19. lani April 21, 2013 at 4:36 pm

I would never watch the walking dead again if they killed rick. and if darryl dies we RIOTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!.. AND PLEASE BRING BACK MORGANNNNNNN.

      20. K April 21, 2013 at 9:57 pm

I think it would be HUGE mistake to kill of Rick. This would stop me from watching the show.

      21. Crusher138 April 22, 2013 at 9:11 pm

Sounds like contract re-negotiation time to me…can’t have any actors feeling that they are vital to the show, they might want more money…

      22. Ash April 24, 2013 at 12:36 am

Controversial this, but ricks death sounds like a good idea to me – story wise that is, maybe not financially based on most of the comments here which suggest it will all kick off if rick dies and ratings drop. Maybe not in season 4 but I would like to see the show slowly shift and develop around his son. Yes rick has been there from the start, but so too has Carl. I would like to see him take over from his dad and become a man that is a product of his childhood seen as he has known very little else other than this apocalyptic world. I want Daryl to live on of course as he is badass (superb actor too, esp when confronted with his brother in zombie form) but I wouldn’t be adverse to his death either. The reason I say that is because the idea that anyone and everyone is vulnerable is why we love the show right? The not knowing and the surprise when someone does die, someone we care about and have invested time into, is what keeps us glued to the edge of our seats and its normally handled exceptionally well. It’s a superb drama/horror. If the obvious people died all the time we would feel as if we have seen this type of thing 100 times before in cliched horror films. I for one would keep watching no matter who dies and I can’t wait for season 4. I’m also loving the fact that at the end of season 3 the group have accepted newbies and a real sense of strength is returning as their numbers were dwindling and they were looking thin on the ground. Is anyone else loving the black guy that carefully speaks his mind? I’m liking him and am glad they have joined the group. I think they will offer great loyalty.

Rick should not die twd will be crap without him TEAM RICK!

      23. Cathy Smythe April 24, 2013 at 8:45 pm

If Rick were killed out,I’d watch it for awhile, but it would not be the same.I would never want Maggie to be a leader.I agree with another person’s comment about Daryl being a nomad. He might lead for awhile but he’s a follower.Carl needs to leave the group. They need to do more then just kill zombies.Thats becoming same old same old …to me at least.

      24. Idril April 27, 2013 at 11:43 am

Some one from their group will die, thats a fact. Daryl is a fanfav and they wouldn’t dare risk it. Maggie/Glenn are the couple, so doubt it. Carol was originally going to die but didn’t. Why change the story and keep her in one season to kill her in another. Plus her character is really beginning to evolve. This leaves Carl, Rick, Hershel :( , Beth and Michonne,

Rick is the only character whose psyche/mindset/action has run the full gamut from psycho to hero to goat to morose to stay-the-course courageous. I watch the show with my eight nieces and nephews at my house every week. ALL have said that if Rick dies, they are not coming back. We all have choices, and if the show’s writers choose to infect their brains with some pretended “zingers,” fine…I know of nine people who will choose to watch something else.

      26. cody May 2, 2013 at 4:21 pm

See there could be something devastating happen to Rick in the next season. For crying out loud he loses a hand in the comic book. Sorry for the spoiler but I’ve been wondering when or how or even if they will do this to Rick or not. I myself will continue to watch this show as long as there is a human killing a zombie lol

      27. Betty May 3, 2013 at 8:57 pm

      28. Labi May 4, 2013 at 9:43 pm

no rick, no more watching the walking dead…

      29. toolboy May 5, 2013 at 1:06 pm

Regardless of who dies. My prediction is were going to get more of the same. With 16 episodes that’s allot of room for watered down stories, this may be ok if it leads up to a big finally unlike what we got at the end of season 3. Season 3 was great….until the last 4 episodes which seem to become “the same ol same ol” as i like to call them and no “oh shit! moments” or moment for a finally.

I think the real reason the story ended as it did comes down to $. Easier to build off from the previous season’s scraps then to give most of the fans what they wanted and move on. Its rumored that this season will be “focused on the characters” excuse me if im wrong but…wasn’t the second half of season 3 exactly that?

In my honest opinion and judging from i have seen from past franchises in my lifetime it seems once they set the hook (meaning getting an excellent fan base) they can do what they wish. And when i say this im not talking about the creators of the walking dead but AMC.

Cheaper to build off of what has already been created than to go into new territory because that is a little harder which in turn costs more money. So the rest of you can debate about who is going to die and and what character development will transpire. But look at the bigger picture everything comes down to $ and that in turn will change were story development will lead.

Because if i was a gambling man, my guess is (the creators, producers and directors) they would have went another direction and gave most of the fans what they wanted but AMC knowing they are cheap skates and due to budget ( like there hurting for money….) had more to do with the outcome of season 3 and why and what were getting in season 4. But thats just my opinion…

      30. Layla May 6, 2013 at 1:47 am

All I will say is this…
Kirkman in no way , shape or form said that Rick is GOING to die, he simply said that “Rick Grimes was not out-of-bounds and we can expect his death at almost any point so don’t rule it out.”
This goes for every character in the show! No character is out of bounds, and as much as I hate to say it, this goes for Daryl as well. I’m a huge Daryl fan (#teamdaryl), but at the end of the day, this is a show about a zombie Apocalypse, and no one is safe. Having said all of that, I will be really pissed off if they kill off Rick or Daryl, but just remember everyone, no one has EVER been safe. Not in S1, S2 , S3 or now in S4.. so I guess we will just have to wait and see…
        Great Article. TWD rules.

When it comes time to kill off Maggie can I be the Walker that gets to bite her on that really nice butt? I promise it will be a very slow kill.

i hope rick dont die it be a shame but ithink i would till watch it and jerry loveing the comment bout maggielol

      33. Robert May 8, 2013 at 2:10 pm

If Rick of Michonne die the show would lose a ton of ground. That’s a friendship/zombie killing duo that I really want to see develop in season 4. It just wouldnt be the same show without our beloved badass sheriff Rick Grimes. The writers clearly aren’t afraid of killing characters just because they survive in the comics (Andrea, Sophia) but I really hope that those two are safe. I really don’t think they will kill Carl or Daryl unless the writers are ready for the outrage that would come with it. Glen or Maggie could be one of the next to go, but most likely if they do it will be one of them so the other will have to face the world without the other. Beth, Hershel, and Carol were the obvious choices to die in the season three finale but shockingly none of them did so I’m not exactly sure where the writers are going with them. Hopefully whatever happens it will be just a thrilling, shocking, and lovable as the first three seasons.

I’ve just finished watching S3 today on a DVD and looking forward for the next season. I love Rick and Daryl!! Michonne is so strong!!

      35. James May 11, 2013 at 3:23 am

I just wish season 4 would hurry up… I was laid up for a few weeks, and had never watched twd until I saw it on iTunes, so I downloaded them all and loved them.
My bet? Karl kills rick after another disagreement. Karl’s already shown he has no hesitation to kill when he thinks its justified.
If they kill rick they would need to bring in someone new, no one of the current ones rally suit the leader role.
Governor is still round somewhere too.

      36. Ryan Severeid May 15, 2013 at 12:04 am

I don’t know if you knew this or not, But Daryl was never a part of the Walking Dead, When Norman Reedus tried out for the role the directors made a special character for him, Daryl. Norman was originally suppose to be Merle

        • Herner Klenthur May 15, 2013 at 12:15 am

we knew about him not being in the graphic novel but i did not know about his casting. Thanks for sharing. Where did you find that out?

      37. jacqueline May 17, 2013 at 4:48 am

As much as I cannot stand Rick Grimes, the show wouldn’t be the same without him. I don’t see any other cast members being capable of leading the way that he does. I would probably watch for a while afterwards regardless though. however, I would be extremely upset if they were to kill off Daryl. He too is a standout and crucial character. I don’t know about anyone else, but I was kind of happy when Andrea died. Her dumbass ALWAYS annoyed me, she really had no clue what she was doing and was always a pain in the butt. the only time I think I didn’t hate her during all the seasons was when she was initially separated from the group on her own. that is the one time I almost began to have faith in her. But, she almost killed Daryl and treated Dale like shit so I was happy to see her gone. I look forward to a season 4 without her:-)

      38. Mike May 28, 2013 at 7:18 am

Killing off Rick? Seriously? Are they CRAZY!?! That’s a joke right?
Come on folks, everyone who watches this show cares about Rick, since day one!
Even if Darryl or Michonne are our fan favorite characters.
It’s Rick’s story. This show is his journey. Without Rick Grimes there ISN’T any Walking Dead.
If they kill off Rick, AMC & Kirkman are power tripping with this show and I will call them completely insane.
Just because this is the hottest television show in the history of cable tv, there’s alot of reasons for it. Usually shows lose their appeal and lose their ratings and end miserably when the main character leaves. I honestly think Kirkman is bluffing, just to keep you tuned in and I really hope he is. I’m a huge fan of this show and I admire Kirkman and everyone at AMC who works on this show. But if they kill off Rick.. its safe to say for myself and many others will too.. The show will lose its audience..
Sure it’s Kirkman’s show and he can do what ever he wants with it.
Yes, yes its all about shock value. That’s what gives the show its edge.
Anyone can go at any time. But hey there’s line you can’t cross man.
And killing off the main character is one of them!
Once you present your work to people, it isn’t yours anymore. Once you gain fans and they gain a love for it.. It’s not yours anymore..
It belongs to the fans. And even though its just a television show.
Those fans? They take it WAY more serious than YOU do.

        For example..
I know of another guy who presented a masterpiece to the world and decided to play games with it and mess it up. Nowadays just about everyone who loved him disrespects him for what he did to “his” masterpiece. That guy’s name is George Lucas..
So don’t power trip.. without the fans, your work is nothing. So don’t displease them Kirkman!

      39. Joe Shmoe May 30, 2013 at 1:56 am

But we seem to have forgot, Rick turned the group into a democracy. They don’t or/won’t need to rely on ricks leadership anymore.

      40. Naomi Yeun June 6, 2013 at 4:57 pm

Daryl would not be a good leader. He’s more of a loner. Plus, Glenn wouldn’t let anyone take leadership. If Rick died Glenn would step up and be the first to make the hard choices because he has the most experience on being a leader. He would also do that because he would want to keep Maggie safe. And if Daryl did become leader then he would make everyone make their own choices and the group would all be apart. Daryl has no idea on how to make these hard choices. And you also saw how good Glenn was at being leader when ick was wandering crazy town.

        • Laurie October 19, 2013 at 8:52 pm

Glenn was a terrible leader at the end of the season last year! He didn’t have anyone manning the towers ..didn’t even realize it ….AND he disappeared on a rampage and left the rest of them to fend for themselves while Rick was wandering around aimlessly seeing Lori … Glenn would be awful at leading.

      41. globen June 9, 2013 at 1:10 am

Rick is walking dead.he is the actor and if he dies.the movie dies with him. Daryl too. No i wont if he dies

      42. eric June 9, 2013 at 5:11 am

Rick is a leader and does he what he feels is right at that time and the circle begins with him and if they kill him off thinking the show will survive then numbers will suggest otherwise and many avenues to go down on this show however keep a core intact as show has potential to be around for quite some time and Kirkman keep your finger off the trigger so soon my man and keep the creative juices flowing.

      43. TWD Fan June 10, 2013 at 5:00 am

It’s a cliché, but Rick really is the heart and soul of TWD. Kill off too many beloved characters, and the reason we all tune in is gone. Producers need to learn from other iconic cult favs and realize that once we get to know the characters, what keeps us tuning in is them … not any clever plot devices cooked up for shock value. The show could continue without almost any of the other characters, as much as we would miss the, but kill off Rick or Daryl? They’d have a major fan revolt on their hands, and viewers would be leaving in droves.

      44. Bree Turnock June 10, 2013 at 8:23 am

If Rick died I would still watch it cause’ I’d want to see how Carl copes and still if they didn’t I would still watch it but when It comes to Daryl If they kill him off I don’t think I’ll watch it

      45. James Puckett June 11, 2013 at 1:07 am

If Rick is killed off I’ll quit watching the show he is the show and we’ll have people boycot the show

        • Bree Turnock June 11, 2013 at 8:42 am

I agree but wouldn’t you want to see how Carls reaction and If Carl swears to protect his little sister, to see if he would become more like his father if he died

      46. alexa June 12, 2013 at 6:07 am

I wouldn’t watch it if Rick was killed off. Maybe only if Carl is grown up and takes over.
I think some how Rick is going to lose his mind and Carl will think he is a liability and in order to maintain the group safe, Carl will kill Rick, rule the group with Beth and take care of Judith.

        • Bree Turnock June 14, 2013 at 2:32 pm

I really don’t think that Carl will kill his own father, he lost his mother and now he’s only got his little sister and Rick.. so I don’t think Carl would want to lose his father as well but that’s a pretty good idea you have

      47. Charlie June 13, 2013 at 2:10 am

Have to agree,,, Rick is what the show is about… him surviving and those who follow him.
No Rick,, you blow the whole deal.. I’m gone! Stick to the basic comic story.

      48. Logan June 13, 2013 at 4:41 am

The creators of the show have shown they know how to create a balance within the group’s by using archetypes each main character has a role that they fill and when a new character or an existing one also fills the roll it can be safe to assume one of those characters will die i.e. Dale/Herschel so it’s safe to assume Rick will not die until someone grows into a leader or a new one joins

        • Bree Turnock June 14, 2013 at 2:36 pm

well I agree with you but Daryl is like the second leader of the group, he toke care of the group and baby Judith when Rick was mourning the loss of his wife and I think that if they do kill rick off then Daryl will step up and become the new leader and that Carl will be the next in-line if Daryl dies

      49. Brian June 14, 2013 at 3:13 am

Rick and Daryl are two people I simply will not stand for being killed off. Daryl is just such an awesome guy. I can’t imagine the show without him. As for Rick, I have followed his journey from the beginning and I would hate to imagine trying to watch The Walking Dead without him. That would absolutely destroy the show. You don’t just introduce us to this guy at the very beginning of the series, make us get used to the show’s story being about his story, and then kill him off and expect us to continue following the story afterwards. No, just no.

        • Bree Turnock June 14, 2013 at 2:30 pm

Daryl is like my idol and I think that if they killed Rick and Daryl off they would lose about 99% of viewers, but that’s if they killed both of them off, I f they just killed rick off then every ones new, used to be second, Favorite actor would be Daryl

      50. Shaban June 14, 2013 at 7:43 am

truly speaking dat will b quits for me if Rick dies in season 4

      51. Cady June 14, 2013 at 12:11 pm

I think kirkman is just saying that anyone’s at risk. We all know its a zombie series, so obviously no ones considered off limits. I’m sure that AMC is aware of how many viewers they’d lose if they killed off Rick or Daryl. I think there’ll be more zombies and more pre-apocalyptic backgrounds of the characters

      52. Gabe June 14, 2013 at 11:11 pm

@annette Johnson wow and you guys thought herner has bad grammar. I can’t even read that!!!

      53. Mavis June 22, 2013 at 9:44 am

They can’t kill off Rick. As others said, he is the heart and soul of this show. You know, the first time I watched Rick in the pilot, he became my favorite just like that! I was so interested in his character, I started feeling depressed knowing Rick nor the show, weren’t real:/ They can kill of Daryl for all I care. I’ve never actually cared for his character. Andrea and Daryl should of switched places. Wish she was still alive:/ She had so much potential. Anyways, I will most likely stop watching the show if they killed of Rick!

      54. lance malarky June 23, 2013 at 10:31 pm

Its a tough one to tell what will happen. did anyone see that coming with the governer? Bloody Brilliant.
In the case of rick, my theory is based on nothing but my love of the show and who the director is.
Hear me out on this one…
Is anyone here and Stephen king fan? Well Frank Darabont is is a huge fan, writing and directing the adaptions of the Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile and The Mist and owns the rights to a few other adaptions yet to be done.
I love King and especially the epic The Dark Tower series, which brings me almost to my point. As I was watching the episode where Rick shoots the two guys in the bar, I was saying to myself ‘No f-ing way, thats Roland Deschain from the dark tower!’ it was too much like him in that scene that I googled to find out who the director was. Low and behold, he is a major King fan.
The show is going away from the comics, so I hear, but the connection of Darabont and King is something to keep an eye on. Roland, much like Rick, is a gunslinger who leads a group of people on an epic journey but there are many scenes where the two gunslingers are so alike. Too much, I would argue.
Anyway, that said, knowing Darabonts background, I don’t believe that Rick will be killed off. I think Darabont has too much of an attachment to Rick and they need a gunslinging leader and Rick is irreplacable in this respect, but he isn’t infallible. I have a hunch he will lose a limb and become more of a teacher to the group, but still their leader. Darabont won’t disappoint, he hasnt let us down so far, has he?
There will be loved ones lost, but there is still a story to be told…
Thanks for reading and I would love some feedback.
Hope I haven’t angered any comic fans!
Also-me hope I’s grammar ok to you! :)

        • Jen February 3, 2014 at 4:13 am

Well spotted and well said with the DT/Roland connection. I agree 100%. Love those books, my life was destroyed for a few months after the 7th came out.

Since you’re no stranger to Stephen King and the loss of beloved fictional characters, tell these whiners to quit their bellyaching.

Losing Rick Grimes or anybody else in WD isn’t gonna be shit compared to Eddie Dean, Jake Chambers and that final gut wrenching loss of having your billy bumbler get his back broken by a werespider then flung at and impaled on a dead tree.

That’s what happens with FICTION, people! You can’t control who lives or dies, that’s the beauty of it! Stop railing against the creators, grow up and take your medicine like good boys and girls!
          It sucks, it sucks hard!
You might cry, lose sleep, or even get physically ill, but for me hey, that’s all part of the territory.
Nobody lives forever, especially in a zombie infested world.

If you can deeply love or hate with a burning passion or mourn the loss of somebody who isn’t real then the writers and actors are doing their job, doing it damn well!

It’s one thing to type a long blog and make mistakes, especially in the heat of the moment, I totally get that, quite another to write like some of you folks do in these comments. Nobody’s perfect but ye gods, have some dignity. Uneducated isn’t the new cool.

      55. don'tlikesellouts June 27, 2013 at 8:46 am

Kirkman has sold out like a lot of artists, shock value for viewer numbers, more equals ad dollars . His whole world was created by george a romero, greg nicotero learned from the best, tom savini. No respect by either writer or special effects ever let the two do an episode. I was a fan, but no more. They are a weak sell out of pulp fiction. Never mind we do know why frank durabont who fought for this series was let go. No answers why, he made this show happen. Since year one the shows story and charater devolopment has fallen short. Amc, how about kill each major character each weak and start with a new crew. Say from small town security, have the fat chick be the leader and her red neck team hold it down. Lol. Jackasses.

      56. gregory joseph mahungururo June 28, 2013 at 3:55 pm

surely i say-“without Rick there’s no walking dead,no hope again 4 we watchers.Hey think about it,Rick is the best of best, aint him i gonna end watchng

      57. don'tlikesellouts June 29, 2013 at 10:25 am

The walking dead is a weak creative view of the end. A realistic view would be more intelligent.

      58. Pam June 29, 2013 at 12:20 pm

My favorite character is Hershel, Please don’t kill him

        • Bree Turnock July 1, 2013 at 3:12 am

Hershall is me 2nd favorite character and I’m sure they probably wouldn’t kill him off

      59. Srihari Yamanoor June 30, 2013 at 6:16 pm

Robert Kirkman makes good fiction, and has now started believing in it himself. Television is an industry. Fans need continuity. Killing off the main character will kill off the show. While AMC might take pride in airing the first suicidal cable series in television history, no one will ever produce anything Kirkman puts out. It also gets annoying when writers try to think they own the product more than the fans, well if that be the case, don’t publish.

      60. Robert July 1, 2013 at 1:25 am

They should have killed Rick off 3-4 episodes ago. His character has become predictable and stale.

        • Bree Turnock July 1, 2013 at 3:15 am

I believe you’re wrong there , Rick is still unpredictable to me and I really don’t think that they’ll kill him off cause’ Rick has Carl and Judith to take care of and I know they are in a huge group of survivors that can take care of them but I just don’t think they’ll kill him off

      61. stephy July 1, 2013 at 12:58 pm

I really like the main cast they have now. To change it and make new main characters kind of turns me off. I have yet to read the comics but I love the show! I love the main cast (rick, daryl, glenn, maggie, hershel, carol, beth, I’m a little iffy on Carl). I just hope the show doesn’t end up as a disappointment.

        • Herner Klenthur July 1, 2013 at 2:03 pm

They really needed to add some new faces since they have lost some really key players over the last season.

      62. BrAinS July 2, 2013 at 4:32 pm

Interesting comments by everyone and I tend to agree with the majority. Losing Rick would be a huge mistake to the shows huge following. That being said, I would be open to Ricks character dropping out for a while…perhaps under the assumption of death with the possibility of resurfacing later. This might make it more palatable for TWD viewers to tolerate Daryl or even Michone’s character developing into a leadership role. Rick has to stay!

        • Bree Turnock July 3, 2013 at 6:30 am

I’ll have to disagree with you on Michoone, Michoone is a very strong and reliable character but I just don’t think she’ll fit the leadership role if Rick does die

      63. Cruz July 3, 2013 at 6:38 am

Maybe Daryl is going to be leader. Cuz in the comics, Ricks hair is long. Take a look at Daryl’s hair. It’s long too. It’s probably a sign…agree?

        • Bree Turnock July 4, 2013 at 1:41 am

I agree (well only cause’ you have Daryl in your comment)

        • Bree Turnock July 4, 2013 at 1:41 am

          but I still agree

      64. Rex July 4, 2013 at 11:47 pm

Kill Rick, kill the show. It’s that simple. People will lose interest if there are no constants. Don’t screw with perfection Kirkman.

        • Bree Turnock July 6, 2013 at 2:26 am

you actually don’t know that’s Rex Daryl would be the 2nd favorite character (meaning Ricks is 1# fave) so if Rick dies fans will go to Daryl (maybe, I know I would).

        • Rex July 6, 2013 at 3:10 am

I disagree. Sure Daryl is a strong character, but he gained his status on Rick’s coat tails. Killing the guy the shows built around will lead fans to distance themselves. Who wants to care if they keep killing off the main character. …whoever it is. Kirkman will destroy the show. He’s way to full of himself. Just my humble opinion.

        • Bree Turnock July 6, 2013 at 3:17 am

Daryl risked his life looking for Sophia. He saved Judith when Rick when losing it when Lori died so I really do think that if Rick does die Daryl WILL step up and become the new leader

        • Rex July 6, 2013 at 3:22 am

Right……Then Kirkland kills him off the following week. Stupid Carol will be the leader if they keep this up.

If Rick dies, I’m done. He is the glue in many ways that hold the group together and many of us identify with his struggles as he is only human and will make mistakes. Rick is a natural leader and like many great leaders, he has compassion and empathy as well as the ability to make the hard decisions that include the taking of a life. I love Daryl and have enjoyed watching his evolution as a man but Daryl, Glen or Maggie simply can’t take his place.

        • Bree Turnock July 6, 2013 at 2:27 am

there can be more then just 1 natural leader

        • Bree Turnock July 6, 2013 at 2:29 am

an I am gonna say this, Daryl will be a great leader if Rick were to die, Maggie and Glenn wouldn’t cause I don’t see that in them but I see it in Rick and Daryl so if Rick were to die Daryl would be a great leader

Although I was not fond of the shows which Rick was was “MAD”, I really love him as a leader. I to am a big fan of Daryl and his personality on this show, being a leader would change that. You grow so close to the character’s and when one dies so does a piece of the show. Change up the villains but not the family….just my thoughts

        • Bree Turnock July 9, 2013 at 6:21 am

I agree with you bout Daryl and bout the villans

      67. Samantha McCurdy July 10, 2013 at 3:32 am

I feel like they may do a similar thing to what happened in the game; killing off Rick and making it more about Carl.

      68. Michael July 10, 2013 at 9:02 am

Wow some really interesting comments put forward but with every story there is a beginning a middle and the end
We all know the beginning and the characters are living or surviving the middle
I think they should start to introduce more characters into the story and if they are prepared to commit attempted series suicide they could have ready made replacements
        As each week unfolds
But as for the end part I’d like to see Carl becoming a stronger character (perhaps with the death of his father would make him stronger and the need to look after his sister)
And I think his sister is the key to the survival of the human race
As we know from season 2 we learned that everyone is affected and already “walking dead”
Judith could be unaffected and bringing more newborns together will be a way of ending the franchise
Because 10 seasons should be around the max for a show any longer the show would become stale as the zombies and fans would be leaving anyway for the next “new kid on the block” show that comes to grab our attention

        • Bree Turnock July 11, 2013 at 8:13 am

It would be tough to watch without Rick. My three favorite characters are Rick, Daryl and Michonne. Don’t make that mistake, keep Rick on. As for needing a love story, put Carol and Daryl together. Those two are meant for each other and balance each other well. That would be a nice twist. Love The Walking Dead. Great show, can’t wait for October.

        • Bree Turnock July 11, 2013 at 8:20 am

Kellie I’ll disagree with ya on that (bout Daryl and Carol) they would be great as just friends and only friends

      70. bob July 18, 2013 at 2:56 pm

I wouldn’t watch anymore if rick gets killed off, but on another note am I the only one who can’t stand carl ?

      71. Terri July 18, 2013 at 3:26 pm

Yes, I would watch but I wouldn’t look forward to it as much….And they better not kill Daryl..

      72. Wade July 19, 2013 at 8:14 am

I just became a recent Walking dead fan, I watched all 3 seasons in one week ending yesterday night, chalking up to no sleep and a hyped sensitivity to creaking doors but I loved every bit of it and I have been trying to get my friends and colleagues to join in!!! LOL!!!. I wouldnt like it though if Rick Grimes died- reason: Darryl who I totally love btw is more of a loner than a leader. He tends to go off on his own thing sometimes. He definitely wont take the risks that Rick does. The risks are stupid sometimes, yes but they are the things that make you go,’awwwwww’, in the end. Glenn is not strong enough personality wise to take up that mantle. Sometimes I think Maggie has a stronger personality than Glenn and as seen when both of them got kidnapped, Glenn would fall apart if anything happened to Maggie. So simple, killing Rick Grimes would be a terrible thing to do. Even if they introduce a new character with strong leadership qualities, i believe people have developed a strong attachment to Rick. I for one might lose interest if Rick goes.

      73. Wade July 19, 2013 at 8:25 am

@Rex, I totally disagree with your opinion that Carol is stupid. I dont know if anyone has been watching, but Carol has grown into a totally calm, strong person. I noticed this most when Merle was talking to her and they were alone. He commented that she used to be weak and afraid of her own shadow. She said, ‘my husbands shadow’. It wasnt the words, it was the look on her face when she said that. Like she has developed a hidden well of strength that run deep. Stupid is definitely not the word to use for Carol. I think Carol should be given more presewnce in the show. Like hoping she would balance out her maternal chores with more edgier work. Maybe not doing runs like Darryl but more ‘Den Warrior’ activies#justsaying

      74. jun July 19, 2013 at 4:12 pm

To address Melissa’s comments, it does appear as Rob Stark will be the Abraham character, as a Bob Stookey has already been cast for season 4.

      77. Laurie July 25, 2013 at 10:19 pm

I will not watch if Rick is killed off “period”!!

      78. Krista July 26, 2013 at 5:53 am

If Rick dies me myself and my entire family which is about 60 of us, will no longer watch the walking dead!!

      79. Claudia July 26, 2013 at 8:27 pm

OMG if rick or daryl die that’s it :(
i can deal with maggie dying she does my head in whining screaming crying i kind of like glenn and hearlshaw (?). Love carol , Carl michomme sp?
I was heart broken when Daryl’s brother merl got turned into a zombie and killed by daryl really emotional ep you could see the hurt in daryl’s eyes i loved merl i always felt sorry for him he just wanted to look out for his little bro but also he wanted power leadership, and wanted rick dead he really spiced up the show in the last few eps really did a fantastic job well acted.

      80. Bob July 27, 2013 at 5:07 pm

I am very new to the Walking Dead, and have just finished watching season 3 I loved every moment of it. I think killing off Rick would be a bad idea but as he has been in it since the very first episode. And although the Walking Dead is about survival, killing him off would change the way the story goes for me, but I am one amongst millions of fans who love the series and don’t have much say in the way the world goes around. Perhaps he should step down as leader that might be an idea. Being from South Wales in the UK we are a bit behind the other waiting fans in the USA. but roll on October 2013 for season 4 I need my Walking Dead fix.

      81. Sandra Hancock July 30, 2013 at 5:08 am

No I would not watch without Rick. He is the heart of the show because of all he has been through ever since the very beginning. HE has fought so hard to keep everyone alive & safe. If any more of the main cast of season one die it will be the same as killing the show cause it will not be worth wasting the time to turn on the TV. Please keep Rick ,Daryl,Glen,Carol,Maggie her dad & sister,Carl & the baby. Rick should be the very last one to die when the show finally end’s whenever.

      82. anthony smith July 30, 2013 at 8:38 am

The show is an ongoing moral play with Rick the heart and soul of the entire enterprise. The success of Walking Dead is in large part due to the subtlety of Rick’s character, and some terrific acting by Andrew Lincoln. Without Rick there is no show, period. He is like Walter White. The show’s not just about the character… the character is the heartbeat of the whole show. It’s not like an ensemble piece, such as Lost.

On another note, I felt like Shane was killed off prematurely. The tension between him and Rick was masterfully handled, and could have been developed even further. Perhaps Shane could have broken away and formed his own group, and they could have been the enemies of Rick and the gang… never have felt like the Governor is an entirely plausible character. The actor playing him is okay, but not stellar, and the character is a bit cliched.

      83. Melvin Marcella Young Davis July 30, 2013 at 9:20 pm

This is my all time to watch but,no if Rick or Daryl get killed off i wont watch anymore those 2 make it worth watching

      84. kali August 3, 2013 at 12:23 am

Rick has become very unstable and just like in real life new leaders will step up. That’s what has made this show great is the fact they could remove major characters at any time. I would say the character that has progressed the most since he’s gotten older is Glenn, from just a pizza boy, hey glenn you be bait, to a budding leader. So either him or Daryl would take over, or maybe they would be co-leaders.

      85. Laiconah August 3, 2013 at 9:22 am

They cannot kill off Rick, Carl or Daryl. They would lose too many viewers, or have very pissed off ones if they did kill off Daryl or Rick- as they are the favourites. Without Carl, Rick wouldn’t so passionate to survive. However different it is from the comics- it is simply unreasonable. The comics is ABOUT Rick- who could possibly be the leader if Rick wasn’t there? The best person to be a leader would probably be Hershel- he is the most reasonable- but he is old- he will most likely die in season four. It is more reasonable for Judith, Maggie, Glenn, Carol, Beth, Tyresse or Sasha to die. If you have read the comics- you might find that some of those people listed actually do die. Some of them don’t even appear though… Glenn might be a favourite character- but it wouldn’t affect the group too much if he was gone… I mean, they all might be a bit sad- but there are many more characters that they will meet later. Carol and Beth are pretty minor characters that might affect Daryl and Carl a little- but they don’t do that much for the group except for washing and cooking. But they CANNOT kill of Rick- it is too unreasonable. The whole freaking show starts off with him- its all ABOUT him.

      86. bud collum August 5, 2013 at 1:47 am

No RICK no SHOW! Just my opinion.

      87. Rich August 6, 2013 at 6:13 pm

If Rick was to die in season 4 i can’t say for sure if i would continue watching. I can’t see any character able enough to fill in his shoes. Daryl is great but he lacks emotion. He doesn’t have the communications skills to hold the group together, his more the nomad ruff around the edges type. Glen i feel is not mature enough to lead aswell he is kinda boyish if that makes any sense. I say this because of how wreckless he got after he was saved from Woodbury after being kidnapped by Merl . Rick has to survive to the very end and find peace and hopefully Daryl aswell. Carl i don’t really care for , i feel his going to be trouble in season 4 and also very annoying…as usual.

      88. Jonathan High McLaurine August 13, 2013 at 7:54 am

OK a lot of you have it wrong. The show is not the comics or the books. This show kirkman has stated before its about Carl. Why do you think most hate him? He is a punk right now! He will grow into the baddest character there ever was towards the end of show. If you want a happy ending I’m sorry but you will be upset.
For instance breaking bad people said they would quit watching if mike died. Guess what mike died and TWD isn’t best show anymore. Breaking bads last season is freaking killer. Has become the most watched show in TV history. I love both but you keep thinking people will quit watching if certain people die. Only people safe is the older kids. Judith isn’t safe either. You keep thinking is about rick ..I guess in a sence first few seasons were. Now its Carl blossoming into a Darryl/ rick/ michone. Now I don’t want this show on forever …I wish it would but any show.goes on forever it ends up suckjng and ending gets forced. I’m pretty sure kirkman and durabount had a idea which way it would head. Durabount wasn’t fired he left on his own terms and happy. He answered questions via tweet. Yea Darryl wasn’t even spose to be in it but he is awesome. All in all he will be one of the last. Now with rick. He can’t die and won’t die till Carl is ready. So Darryl will g before him and believe me rick will die at some point. Remember kirkman had answered questions and said Carl and beth are the future. I’ve heard rumors that Herschel is on way out. He got arrested IRL filming 4th season for D.U.I and a zombie lady who was a former miss Utah was arrested in connection of sending ricin to Obama. Also there has been hints that Maggie or glen will die. My money is a lot of new characters die including Judith ..kirkman said there will be a baby walker. Insane haha. Glenn will die first episode saving Maggie. They did the love story they are married and its been a year. One has Togo to show how rough it is to move on in this world. Herscel got one leg I’m sure he is done also. Also this isn’t comics and kirkman said biggest mistake he made was cut of ricks hand. To much limitation. Also this season. I guess is gonna have the mos comic adaptations compared to rest. Still wont be like.comics. once cark is considered grown a lot of deaths are gonna happen. Carl will lead they have said it. Google twd first season kirkman interviews.

      89. beatriz August 16, 2013 at 10:46 pm

if Rick dies it becomes very interesting. Daryl is capable to be the group leader but r we sure Glenn will take it lightly? Isn’t he also looking up to that? as group leader? i wish Merle were in season 4 because with him the hard way is the only way.

      90. lisa k August 17, 2013 at 9:48 pm

if rick dies im ok with that. but my main man DARYL DIXON better not get killed off, I would have a freaking heart-attack & never watch the show again. so on behalf of women everywhere, thank u NORMAN (DARYL) 4 being so HOT & bad-ass/yet gentle & 4 making redneck men all over the world look more desirable!! but I bet they cant shoot a crossbow like u can!!!!

        • gina macdougall November 4, 2013 at 9:04 pm

      91. bob brown August 20, 2013 at 6:13 pm

probably would stop watching if either rick or daryl were killed off. was pleased when lori kicked it though! rick being killed off would sound the death knell for the show imo.

      92. Joe August 20, 2013 at 6:37 pm

It started with Rick, so it should end with Rick.

      93. James August 21, 2013 at 4:57 am

Daryl or Rick or Glen and I’m done. This show needs to focus on “surviving” and the few tight knit people that do. Killing the main cast is the only bad part about this show.

      94. Thomas August 24, 2013 at 11:50 am

I really wish this guy would proof-read his article before publishing it. There are so many grammatical errors it drives me nuts. It’s a great article don’t get me wrong, but it could definitely use a professional touch.

      95. Judy August 30, 2013 at 5:38 pm

I would stop watching I think if rick died….hes the only reason I continue to watch…hes got this thing about him…its like a car wreck…you know you should look but you just gotta….

      96. PyRo August 31, 2013 at 9:43 am

I would be like “that did not just happen” if Rick died. And i think that if Robert Kirkman decides to kill off Daryl, The walking dead series would lose alot of fans because he can be the real badass, without being mentally sick at the same time.

      97. Aggi August 31, 2013 at 12:13 pm

Loved rick in s3. Cold and crazy. Too bad he is to go back to normal in s4. And whats the thing with tyresee becoming his new right-hand-man? Maybe that will make daryl loose it? Go back to what he was in s1. Would be cool, he’s too much of ricks puppy. U know, rick says jump daryl wants to know how high… anyway, hope the producers arent stupid enough to kill off either rick or daryl, would be a disaster. Still, I would keep watching, want to know how the show ends.

      98. kane September 1, 2013 at 1:37 pm

i will not watch it if rick die and probably no one would watch it either

      99. ray lainsbury September 1, 2013 at 5:46 pm

killing rick is suicide, best series on tv.please stick to the comics.rick a important character.great for shock value to draw you in but the its the story that counts

        • Deadpoolio October 13, 2013 at 10:35 pm

Um you know that they have always stated that NO it will NOT follow the comic….Hence why Rick did not lose his hand. Something Kirkman himself has always said he regretted….I think you people who think something should strictly follow it’s source should just stop watching anything when you ADAPT something for another medium, it gives you an opportunity to change things or not strictly follow what has already been done. Otherwise It wouldn’t be called an ADAPTATION….

I didn’t hear any of you geniuses crying about Daryl and Merle being characters added to the show and not characters in the comic….At least be consistent in the crying

      100. jameshankins September 6, 2013 at 6:34 am

I think lee everett and clementine should be added!

      101. Oziah Enroh September 16, 2013 at 2:05 pm

I don’t think killing Rick would be a good move. The guy lost his cool for a little bit but look at what’s going on everywhere, added with the great loss and the great gain all at once. I’d say he was crazy and incapable if he DIDN’T react to that kind of emotional blow. The writers of this show are just great because they can make you invest in a character as if they were people we actually knew. Lol. But yeah, Glenn has for damn sure toughened up, I think surviving that attack while being strapped to a chair was Glenns defining moment. Darryl and Rick have such a great respect for one another that killing one of them just wouldn’t make sense, at least right now it wouldn’t. I love the show either way, and the cast as it is right now is perfect. I would hate to see anyone else go but I know its gonna happen. Rick, Darryl, or Glenn though, or even Michonne would be great losses and would wade me a little, not enough to stop watching though. Because the show is still pretty awesome anyway.

      102. Rob September 16, 2013 at 3:28 pm

Kirkman has been saying the same line since early on in the comic books… Just saying.

I don’t know what will happen, but that’s been said before a lot. So no new to me!

      103. DeAnna_TWD September 17, 2013 at 6:15 pm

I really do love Ricks charector alot but his death would not prevent me from watching the show lol. Daryl is my FAV charector but i dont belive he would make a good leader. He is THE perfect “sidekick” though lol. Loyal, headstrong good morals and gets the job done but i dont see him taking that role. And speaking of killing off I have a feeling and i hate to say it that Hershals going to be the next to go .Idk though. I cant wait to see how much Judith has grown as well =]

      104. save0ursanity September 20, 2013 at 6:15 pm

I think that rick will always be an end of season death, for example, the first series began with him, so its only fair one ends with him. I cannot see the series’ end all together but it would not be a sudden thing, it has to be a closing death with drama. My auntie loved Muroulgh or however you spelt it, and I think that having him alive for all that time was a good suspense thing, maybe rick and the group get separated or the governor grabshim idk. But I think they should always bring back georgre (if that’s his name, idk) also known as they guy with all the traps. either way the prison can never be secure beause the other side is not secure, what they need to do is find another prison or a castle if they can stand it, but they aren’t ready for that yet. Finally I thing the tragic death of lori was so sad, she was my favourite character, along with shane.

      105. Tim.C September 21, 2013 at 12:51 am

Kill them both off…see how the group adapts and who steps up then to lead. People who are saying the show will be ruined if Rick or Daryl dies, why even watch the show?? As Kirkman says anyone can die at any time and that is how it would be in such a world

      106. Edwin Vega September 28, 2013 at 12:24 am

They should keep Ricks and Daryl at least until the end of the series. I agree with most of the fans that the series will not be the same without them

      107. chrisjon October 3, 2013 at 8:49 am

i kept asking myself that, if rick could die– whenever he took an idealistic risk in the beginning of the show, then when he went nuts near the end of season 3– and my gut tells me no. rick is where the show all began, and to him where all the events has a “home,” in a sense, to come back to, ties it all neatly together. it would be hard to find focus with the show without his character and we’ve become too familiarized with him as the main character for anyone to possibly adequately replace him and maintain the same number of watchers interested… at least that is how i feel.

and daryl is such a big favorite he may be quite a few fans main (and possibly even only!) reason to keep watching the show (traitorous fans… such as myself? shhh) so no i don’t think it would be a smart move to off either of those two (unless it’s like the finale and they do their last stands JUSTICE…) honestly i think the creators are just trying to hype up on just how UNPREDICTIBLE this new season is… that’s all they repeat on interviews about it. yes they better not kill them….

but great + pertinent article! i feel satisfyingly informed and my fandom needs fulfilled. don’t let grammar snobs get you down, your writing wasn’t hard to follow at all, you were only speaking the language of the common peoples…

      108. gabriel October 5, 2013 at 4:29 am

id quit watching if rick or daryl died

      111. Xavier October 12, 2013 at 1:13 am

I wouldn’t mind if rick dies just not season 4 …. I feel as though the show would give more details of the other characters if rick died yes some fans won’t like his death but it would make the series even more realistic… What if rick died and didn’t turn that would be amazing..

And btw Sasha will turn in season 4 Meshone and Tyreese will get together. Don’t ask me how I know you can choose to believe me or not but it will happen(:

      112. Ali SardonicThapa October 13, 2013 at 7:42 pm

Of course he does he doesn’t want you to ever feel safe in this show because that’s not the way it is in real life

      113. Ali SardonicThapa October 13, 2013 at 7:43 pm

I think each and every character is going to die at some point if the show goes on long enough but still there’s going to be some hope in the end

      114. Gail Cole October 13, 2013 at 7:48 pm

If rick dies a lot of fans will stop watching

      115. Riley Joyce October 13, 2013 at 8:11 pm

At no point did Kirkman actually say he would kill Rick. This feels like another internet rumor.

      116. Cory October 13, 2013 at 9:28 pm

Im done with this show if they kill rick!

      117. William Smith October 13, 2013 at 11:06 pm

Cant we just watch the show?

      118. Clayton M Frazier October 13, 2013 at 11:13 pm

Rick is The Walking Dead, and the show will cease to be.

      119. Riley Joyce October 14, 2013 at 2:46 am

Yep, which is why I don’t agree with it.

      120. Shawn October 14, 2013 at 3:29 am

Kirkman seems to do whatever he wants, ANDREA is a key survivor in the comics and they killed her off if he’s hinting at Rick’s death; him, Michonne and Carl are the only remaining key survivors left. Why not call the show The Walking Daryl..

      121. Shawn Payer October 14, 2013 at 3:34 am

People will still watch if they kill Rick, Everyone loves Daryl, it’s all about Daryl….who isn’t even in the comic books….Kirkman killed Andrea on the TV show; one of the 4 key survivors in the comics along with Michonne Rick and Carl. He he does kill Rick he seems to want to put Daryl in his position as the new leader. Kirkman doesn’t seem to care much about following the comics anymore. Maybe he’ll rename the show The Walking Daryl? I like Daryl don’t get me wrong, I just don’t’ understand the hype for a character that was not even in the comics.

      122. zarmie October 14, 2013 at 4:48 am

Killing Rick means killing me, killing the viewers and killing the show… So no more Walking Dead… im hoping that it will not happen coz i love the show so much and Ricks character..

      123. Devianza October 14, 2013 at 7:47 am

I wouldn’t put to much stock into what Kirkman says about Rick, he’s been saying the same thing about Rick for years now in the letters page of the comics, and now he’s saying it about the show and the truth is, he doesn’t have final say what happens on the show and AMC isn’t stupid enough to kill one of the lead characters especially now that shows like the Duck Brothers are coming close to beating TWD ratings wise, and if it pulls it off it’ll be the highest rated cable show which AMC wouldn’t be happy about.

      124. Devianza October 14, 2013 at 8:03 am

And I really hope the writers don’t try to say it’s the water or food that is responsible for anyone dying, it wouldn’t sell because if it was the water or food supply, almost everyone would have dropped dead since they’re all drinking and eating from the same source. If it something that they’re consuming or exposed to, it’ll have to be something that quite a few of them were never around.

      125. Katie Doherty October 14, 2013 at 3:43 pm

He was not saying Rick will die, I don’t think. He was being coy and like, “No one’s safe. You’ll have to watch to find out! ” I think it would be a bad decision to kill Rick. He’s been too important.

My husband was pissed about Shane but it kind of needed to happen. Rick dying would not be beneficial to moving the story.

      126. Sharon October 15, 2013 at 12:40 am

I love Rick, he makes the show. I do wish he would find a new love in Season 4.

      127. Rosie October 16, 2013 at 2:22 am

I love Rick, If Rick dies I would not watch the show.

      128. Jack Burton October 16, 2013 at 7:17 am

Why are people talking about if Rick dies then Daryl may or may not be able to take over? Who cares about the story?!? The directing is going to absolute crap after Season 2…and now the acting is getting worse as the series goes on? AMC is totally screwing this show up by nickel and diming. You can’t just get rid of the best actor in the show. He is Tony Soprano of Walking Dead. There is no show without Andrew Lincoln. And they better start paying for some better directors and actors because I think people are totally misguided on what makes a great TV show. It’s DIRECTING and ACTING. Who cares if there are more zombies? And if AMC won’t pay for better scenery and sets then the actors and writers need to make noise and threaten a strike. I rewatched the 3rd Season Finale and it was horrible. If there wasn’t David Morrissey and Andrew Lincoln it might be the worst season of any show in the last decade. AMC is going on the cheap and it’s screwing with brilliance. They need to hire some HBO directors like Tim Van Patton and Allen Coulter and Ed Bianchi. Little things like Lori’s Pillow pregnant stomach that she is holding in place so it doesn’t fall out. It looks like a high school produced show lately. They are just so cheap. Even watching S4 Premiere they had Larry Gilliard’s character under the huge liquor shelves that fell on top of him…they didn’t even bother to show what was caught underneath..they just avoided showing his whole lower half and we were to assume some part of his leg was caught. There is NO attention to detail anymore on this show and it’s pissing me off. Without great directors and great actors…and now too stingy to pay for good sets and making the Apocalypse world look like the Apocalypse Prison and Farm. And it’s another money move to move all these people from Woodbury into the prison that we don’t care about. Have a bunch of young cheap actors who don’t cost anything and increase the deaths. It’s not about what happens, it’s HOW it happens and the drama captured by great performances and artful directing and cinematography. Man AMC and Kirkman are blowing this. They better have The Governor come in and kick some ass and if they get rid of Lincoln (Rick) they should have their cheap ass sets blown up for real.

      129. Insomnia October 16, 2013 at 10:12 pm

Jack Burton, The one and only guy in the world with a real zombie brain…

      130. duffatron October 19, 2013 at 1:30 am

If you have followed the show from the very get go and watch it all consecutively, it is not hard to see that Rick was a proxy for the viewer up until season 3, meaning that we needed him because it gave us a first person view of experiencing the holocaust. When the governer was introduced and Rick went loopy I think the writers purposfully did this so we would begin to dislike him due to the fact he was making bad decisions like rejecting Tyrese and his crew and basically losing his sons love. Obviously his experiences up until this point would make most go mad but then again you cannot forget Lori pitting Rick and Shane up against each other and Carl disowning Rick after Shane’s death. Despite all of this I think Rick is still our proxy and we’ve been through a lot with him…..except his death! When you think about it Daryll has come a long way and would make a tough leader with Carol the, shows Ripley from Alien, by his side to level out his rebelious side. Note: just watch what she does to her husbands head in season 1 after years of beating for proof of that. That being said we have Tyrese who after watching s4e1 we see still has some semblance of humanity in him and believes killing the walkers unfairly “just aint right”. Yes it would be nice to see Rick find love again but somehow I don’t think the apocalypse is going to end any time soon, and what more could we see Rick go through. Name one show that has had the balls to kill off it’s main character. Tyrese and his sis would make good underlings to Daryll and Carol. Killing off Rick would annoy a lot of people and make a lot of people really upset, but it would definately make everyone go WHAAAATT!?! Don’t forget that the unpredictable story lines are what makes this show so unique and I for one would definately still watch to see where they take it. Imagine what Carl would do if he lost his dad too, leaving him with just his baby sister. Would he take her in or let the group look after her and become Mad Max, roaming the apocalyptic wastelands fending for himself. The show has been building on its ensemble cast for 4 seasons now and with more characters slated to join this season you can only focus on a certain few before it just becomes a mess and they will not be able to wrap things up properly like the dreaded LOST finale. Seriously why the hell did Jack have to put his dads shoes on Locks dead body for the man in black to become him when we knew he could take the form of anyone that was dead anyway, that really bugged me. Anyway I think Rick has had his day and should be killed off more gloriously and more gruesomely than anyone yet, this would make the show almost like Hitchcocks Psycho if it were to carry on for another 4 seasons and picture this. What if Michone finally finds the governer only to meet her demise and he returns to the prison with the knowledge of how to counter the “new threat”. Being the only one there who knows what to do they not only would not be able to kill him but would have to take him in. Then he uses his knowledge to finally overthrow Rick an Darylls seat of leadership and becomes Hitler once again mwahaha. One afterthought. I am glad they killed off Andrea. Does no one remember how much of a b$!#h she was to Dale. He was the groups last shred of humanity and she started going against him and the group by shagging Shane and thinking she was Sarah Conner after doing her own sister in. No one seems to remember Dale saves her ass by chucking her the screwdriver when she fumbles around with the gun, unable to reassemble it, giving away her position to the walkers, when she was trapped in the RV in s2e1. What a numpty. Anyway nuff said. Please leave a comment if you agree they should kill off Rick this season and think the show could survive without him.

Jack Burton you need some schooling in classic story telling. What makes a good show is first and foremost the story then the production then the directing then the acting. without a good story you have mindless drivel like tv reality shows and soaps. I for one dont know any soaps that have 1 a good story 2 changing sets 3 good direction and 4 any semblance of a good actor and there fore dont watch soaps. Watch Psycho by hitchcock. Its one of his most critically acclaimed masterpieces yet you dont see the knife penetrating the skin and much of the true horror comes from the score and sheer shock value that the main character you have been watching for the past 30 minutes is being killed off. Massive shock and intrigue as to what comes next grips the viewer as to what comes next and is a sure fire way to get the audience hooked. At the point where that dude got his leg caught there was so much else going on i would have rather been watching the action than to see his foot caught even after he had already stated the fact. In scenes like that its more about the choreography of the action than complaining about the actors reactions to the situations. You seem to be watching the show for all the wrong reasons. If you want soppy love stories and happy endings then you need to stick to kids shows and cartoons because you will find in adult tv shows like this there are no happy endings because its just not dramatic. All hit shows have sad dramatic endings like breaking bad lost firefly supernatural fringe dexter to name just a few. This adult tv for grown ups and sometimes acting isnt everything as the ratings for this show will prove. nuff said

      134. Josh Gibson November 5, 2013 at 7:16 am

You can not kill rick or daryl. That’s like saying “let’s kill off Luke Skywalker and Han Solo”. You can kill maggie, glenn, and carl and people would be bummed but if you kill rick or daryl people will be pissed and stop watching the show…Myself included.

      135. Kira Piendel November 6, 2013 at 2:10 am

My favorite person in the whole show is Daryl, and id stop watching if ya’ll got him killed. The main reason i watch this show is because of daryl, and i think ya’ll should put him in more we dont see him enough……

Did Rick eat the deer Daryl caught,i think that’s where everyone got the illness from,Patrick mentioned it in episode 1 season 4,,Daryl licked his fingers before shaking Patricks hands,Maybe Daryl has the virus too along with everyone who ate it? I would still watch the show, but without Rick or Daryl it would not be as good

      138. ALCHI321 November 8, 2013 at 2:44 pm

We started this journey through Rick’s eyes, and his experience; to take him out of the show would kill it for me. I love the other characters and enjoy their story lines centered episodes, but I always expect the show to take me back to Rick’s journey through this.

      139. Zoe November 8, 2013 at 11:34 pm

What happens in the comics is irrelevant, we know that. Anyway, even though there are characters that I like better than Rick like Michonne, Daryl, Glen, etc. I still think it would be weird to kill him off. Having Rick at the head with the others just being badasses on the side is better. Seriously though, someone NEEDS to shoot Karl. Shut up, take that dorky hat off and go play with the other kids 😉

      140. ashley November 9, 2013 at 5:23 am

I highly doubt anyone would actully stop watching the show if Rick or Daryl died. It would be the worst possible decision to do so and agree that I would be pist if they did. however, I think everyones curiosity would get the best of them, and everyone would still watch. Ik I would.

      141. ashley November 9, 2013 at 5:31 am

Also, its ok to have a favorite character, but in my honest opinion, I feel like the ppl who say they only watch the show for Daryl are ppl who have not seen every season, or read the comics. The show/comics teach you great morals and is very deep. Adapting to different lifestyles, learning to trust or throw out ppl in your life, making tough decisions, etc. its a great show and I love every aspect of it. Cant wait for the spinoff series!

      142. Mus November 27, 2013 at 6:22 pm

I have a feeling they are going to kill Maggie, she’s a guest on the next Talking dead..

      143. Nina November 29, 2013 at 11:16 pm

I think that Daryl, Carl and Carol will get a bigger part in the leadership when Rick dies.
Rick has made some bad choises (kicking Carol of the group). And I’d like to see others in his posistion. But I still hope Rick will survive, but without the leadership.

      144. minidude13 December 2, 2013 at 5:48 am

Am I the only one who hates Rick? I find he is very “unneeded” for the TV series. He has barely done anything in this Season and he has been a bore. I don’t mind Carl as much, although both Rick & Carl are you typical run of the mill wear and tear heroes.

On top of that, I hate how they had Carol leave the season, although I do think she will be introduced, it just makes me hate Rick more when he is the one who removes Carol from the show.

I still love the show, but if they keep on killing characters I like, it is going to become something makes me mad every time I see it. I understand that no one is truly safe in the series, but that does not mean it is a good idea to kill/remove all the good characters. Not to mention, I can’t be the only one who thinks Rick has had too many lives. He keeps getting knocked down, and voila, he is still alive, yet other characters suffer much less, and just unrealistically croak.

      145. genevil December 4, 2013 at 5:21 am

Rick has got to go. He has severely outlived what little usefulness he had. I was sad to see the Governor go, as I I thought he was a much better character than Rick, but if he had to go, why couldn’t they let him take Rick with him?!?

      146. Joseph Salahid December 5, 2013 at 4:51 pm

I want to see Rick in any season of Walking Dead.Because Rick is a good leader and he handle his group in any Accident..I want Rick still alive in Coming season of The Walking Dead !

      147. Rick Elmore December 6, 2013 at 8:23 pm

I would probably still watch for lack of anything else better on TV (even though I buy my episodes on AMZN immediately after they air), but I wouldn’t be into it without Rick Grimes. He should only die if it’s the end of the show. Rick (even though he moves like a gorilla when he talks) is the glue to the cast and it’s because of his hardships and growth that I’ve fallen in love with the show. He grew Daryl, Merl, Carl, Glenn and so many others. Not to mention the divestment of wisdom and leadership given Rick from Hershel and Dale. This series is about the aspects of a man’s journey through the zombie apocalypse world and the FINAL aspect should be his acceptance of death at the very end of the series.

      148. wsucram15 December 7, 2013 at 11:54 am

I agree with comment above…the journey is about Rick Grimes, it began with him and should end that way. The evolution of the relationship between Rick and Carl is essential now and one that will be interesting to see played out. However, Carl has not learned empathy yet, or teamwork. AMC writers are great story tellers especially about journeys through hell.. look at Breaking Bad, which was not my type of show but one of the best shows, next to this one I have ever seen. I realize that this is not the same type of writing as that, and would hate to see this show lose viewership over poor judgements for cheap shock value. After Hershel’s death, which I understand was a necessary evil, I am on the edge of not watching the show. Mostly because There is enough to deal with in this show, and killing fan favs seems to be a source of enjoyment for Kirkman and crew. Which I cant support…I enjoy the writing which is quality, but not if I am going to be upset over a character loss or the show wont be the same so someone can feel they have reached a death quota for the year.
Rick and Daryl? I wont watch it, and eventually others wont either,..its not tv…which is what this is. TV. Our heroes saving the world just a little while longer.

Mike Buckendorf December 7, 2013 at 11:24 pm

not necessarily. There’s only Rick, Andrea, Carl and Sophia left from the original camp outside Atlanta in the comic. Kirkman’s always stipulated that nobody is safe, and that characters will always come and go. The TV adaptation is no different. I sincerely doubt Rick will get whacked anytime soon though. I’d say he’s probably the only character that IS safe.

He at the least needs to lose his hand…. The gov took it in the comics.. They kill off main characters in the comics pretty much every few issues.. Get you attached to them then BAM!!! They need to do more of that in the show. I don’t think they will be killing him off any time soon.. But he is in for some serious health issues.. Hopefully..

Marc Hughes December 7, 2013 at 6:18 pm

      174. Gerald Richett December 7, 2013 at 3:32 pm

Kirkman even says in the comics its a story of survival for father and son they’ll never go anywhere

      175. Melisandre VonDoom December 7, 2013 at 3:42 pm

Please kill off Rick. He’s almost as useless as Lori was.

      176. Rod Challis December 7, 2013 at 3:43 pm

I have to wonder if who dies is more dependant on the actor’s contracts as much as anything else. Some of these people might be getting very lucrative offers from other productions that they can’t do because of Walking Dead filming schedules.

      177. Jones Foxx Jr. December 7, 2013 at 3:50 pm

The further away from the comic they go the sooner the show ends. They have gotten VERY sloppy in terms of script, logic and acting.. It’s that talking dead that’s doing it. The writers and directors getting to on camera and act like they are rock stars and getting way to much ego. The more ‘fan-atics” that go along with every thing they do like it’s all ” the best ” the worse things will get. the blind fan base is what kills shows/movies

      192. David Brereton December 7, 2013 at 9:13 pm

This has to be BULL, the walking dead is Ricks story, end of, sure Daryl is an awesome character, but without someone like Rick there he could easily turn into Meryl, I think this is just bravado on Kirkmans part, they may well kill off rick, after all he’s not an immortal or a super hero, but for anyone who has or is reading the comics, the character Rick becomes after the prison is pretty kick ass, he will probably die in the comics an Karl will take over the mantle, but to kill him in season 4 of the show would be ridiculous.

      193. Mike Buckendorf December 7, 2013 at 11:22 pm

If they killed Rick, it would deal a fatal blow to the show….or would it? I think Kirkman turned Rick into a crazy asshole so fans would lose less interest in him, and made Daryl more of the central character. Nobody in the show is immune, the show is full of twists and turns (ie, andreas and Dales deaths) fans moved past those, itd be harder with Rick, but we’d get past it. Because true fans of the show wouldnt stop watching just because a character. Unless its Daryl. Then we riot

      200. Agathor December 15, 2013 at 9:31 pm

      201. SophisticSleet December 16, 2013 at 6:36 am

What probably is going to happen is the show is going to change focus from rick to carl…and carl is going to become the new leader along side Daryl. Or not maybe just him

      202. zain December 20, 2013 at 2:17 am

Yes this will be totally stupid if they killed Rick because its like said above is HIS JOURNEY.life how he lived and survived after the zombie apacalypse with his family or people he came to know.
If they are going to kill him so why in the hell make him the key role.
And about carl being the lead role ok he was there since the start but never the center of the group. He is a kid that his dad is trying to raise into a man with humanity in his heart.
And Daryll i love the character but my fav is Rick.Just like said above he is no more then a follower he is not a leader. His charcter might have ivolved quit alot but he is still a guy who needs rick to keep him in line and to make him think about others as well.
        Glenn and magiee no leaders.
But i will watch the show if only they dont kill Rick because it is his journey and if they kill him off then what was the point in the first place.
But IN the end its all about Money the producers are making and they will take the steps or choices for TWD which are most best financially.
So killing of Rick or Daryll is going to be suicide.
Just like The Office they changed the lead role and the show went zero interms of ratings.
Kirkhman must be teasing to keep fans interested. He must have ment like he can be killed because he is mortal not immortal.but he just said it in a wage way that can be taken in anyway.
And Kirkhman is Also famous for not letting any Spoilers or hints out there. So that must have been one of his Douge for a Question.

      205. Dennis Clark January 1, 2014 at 1:34 am

No one is safe. Killing Rick would not ruin the show. He’s always been a bit of a bed wetter anyway. Carl seems to be the logical choice to lead whatever is left of the group. His character has grown in strange and interesting ways and in the event of a real “end of the world” scenario it’s people like him who will survive and thrive. Daryll’s recklessness would eventually catch up with him. Killing off any character isn’t a bad thing. The Wire (HBO) was a great example of that. As long as interesting new characters are introduced and existing characters continue to grow and evolve I’m okay with whatever they do or whoever they kill.

      206. Connie January 1, 2014 at 3:10 am

I hope it’s Carl. I love Rick, Daryl, Glenn and Maggie. But I have a serious feeling it’s gonna be Maggie.

if robert kirkman is so arrogant to think this show would have lasted this long and be this popular without andrew lincoln hes a dumbass look at all comics turned to film wich ones lasted… exactly theres not alotta depth in comics and your fan base is not teens they watch it on the internet not tv so unless you have any other material anyone wants….nope you sure dont you might wanna leave rick and daryll alone its not good for profits. and amc loves its profits nowadays they have to many investors to just say hey lets do that the fact is the fanbase that watches this show live watch it for daryl an rick the zombies are always the same its not like they can develope a personality and carry the show and how much of your fan base believes suddenly the tv version of carl is a lead not the 25-40 demographic for sure it was a lot of people that made this show great very little had to do with mr kirkmans version….dumbass

The walking dead is an awesome show I love all of the characters especially rick and Daryl so I would not watch the walking dead without them I mean Rick has been on the show since the very beginning and Daryl is a fan favorite by so many people killing either one of them off the show would loose millions of fans Robert kirkman if your planning to kill off either one of them just know your going to loose ALOT of fans you can’t just put amazing people on the show and have everyone love them then throw them out like trash.

If Rick goes. I go…watch Duck Dynasty! Big, big mistake, Kirkman…just saying. Daryl needs further development as a character. Has he stepped up to the plate, well, yes..could he bring together an entire group, keep them fighting emotionally…think not. Keep them both, I say. More is left to develop with them each.

To say the least i would watch the walking dead all over again if rick died. But if daryl, Glenn, Tyresse, Bob or Beth die early up i am gonna murder the writers of the show.

I’m really not sure of I would watch it if Rick died.. I had a fit when I read this stuff. I will honestly be ticked off…. I will be really upset.. I’m gonna write the everyone about that..

Hershel was the shocking death of season 4 I am sure. I wouldn’t doubt the next death would be someone like Tyreese or Glenn, someone lower on the pole after Hershel has already been killed. I doubt it will be Rick, Carl or anyone else in that position in the show at this point in the show. There’s still a lot more story to tell with those characters. No the show doesn’t follow the comic book 100% because we would all know what happens, but it’s doubtful they will kill Rick at this point.

I think that Ricks days may be numbed. That’s why they allowed Michonne to find Rick and Carl. Carl couldn’t really take care of himself alone. I’d love for Rick to stay but i feel that the show is grooming Carl to lead. If they do hang on to Rick I hope that he will have more confidence in himself. That’s what Hershel would want.
Michonne and Darrel would be great leaders because they have proven to have the best survival skills; however, some one like Rick really balances the personalities (a since of level headed direction).
Glenn and Maggie could grow into leader position, but they need more time.

I think it would be a true tragedy to kill off Rick. He is the tragedy of the show. He embodies everything we know about hope and fear. The things that Rick has had to do to survive and keep everyone going, to kill him would be dishonoring all he has had to do. Rick himself is slowly turning into those monsters that are out there. If there is a threat it must be answered. I believe the last bit of hope we had with Rick and peace truly died with Hershel. As Rick was trying to tell the governor that he could live there, and that there could be peace for everyone. Hershel smiled, almost in spite of the fact that he knew he was going to die and the governor would not take his offer. He was proud that the key idea of humanity was still instilled in Rick, and that he had learned some sort of life lesson.

I think carl, rick, judith, daryl, beth, maggie, and glenn should stay alive there real good characters i dont mind the rest fies but i like those characters to servive up until the of the series.

If Rick was killed off , millions of fans would turn there back on the show including me , I still think shane was killed off too early .

I love Rick as well, especially after reading the comics but it would be really interesting to see the show go down such a huge twist like that. Game of thrones survives and it kills off people’s favourite characters all the time, so I wouldn’t be too surprised if Daryl or Rick died, because that would make one hell of an episode (and of course stop me from guessing the plot because I read the comics).

First of all the article is out of
Date and wrong Abraham is in the show now and who ever down there is saying the comic book and the tv series is completely different your wrong so many things happen in the tv show that happen in the comic just with different characters rick is a 99.9% safe

      221. Teresa malott March 17, 2014 at 7:29 pm

I will never watch the walking dead ever again if Rick die

      222. emma March 19, 2014 at 1:01 pm

Ok i am a HUGE walking dead comic fan and i can assure you rik doesn’t die, but also in saying that Robert kirkman said that he has changed the layout of the show to surprise his comic fans so they don’t know what gonna happen next so who is to say?

      223. Che March 19, 2014 at 3:32 pm

I personally would like to see Rick die and Carl take lead. He has displayed some true leadership characteristics and has learned a lot from his father. It will be a sad death but he must go.

it kills me how comics are now called novels. I guess next Wednesday i’ll go to the novel shop and get the latest spider- man novel, take it to novel con next week end and get it signed by the novel writer and novel artist.

      225. Rick March 24, 2014 at 6:04 am

Put it this way. Kill Rick, lose millions of viewers. Which will also cause losing millions of dollars. They’re not that stupid. And if they are that stupid, then they will just hurt themselves.

      226. MattDamon March 25, 2014 at 9:28 am

Kill Rick and the walking dead gets cancelled. how do you like them apples?

      227. Ashley Lynne March 26, 2014 at 12:40 am

        Yep I hate rick

      228. Brandon workman March 26, 2014 at 1:34 am

I think the show would be ruined if rick dies . And the show would be nothing without Daryl being the badass he is I think Daryl is the ass kicker and made the show even better

      229. cuco March 26, 2014 at 11:56 pm

“people need to read the novels”
“no way they’re introducing Abe on session 4”

        • cuco March 27, 2014 at 12:00 am

          season! for god sakes…

      230. izzy March 29, 2014 at 2:04 am

They better not kill off Rick or Daryl, especially Rick the show can not go on without him. It started with him it ends with him. If they wanted to kill him off it should have been done a long time ago, the show is clearly centered around Rick. The show will absolutely fail and go right down the toilet .

      231. gina March 31, 2014 at 12:53 am

Daryl was never in the comics and Glenn gets beaten to death so I say Glenn is next.

      232. Tania April 1, 2014 at 1:18 am

I think Rick and his companions have met the first group of cannibals in terminus. Why waste ammo and possible injury trying to forge for food when the food is welcomed at the gates. just an observation

      233. yzzi April 2, 2014 at 10:40 pm

Even though right is death will bring tragedy I would still watch it.

      234. Wayne October 7, 2014 at 4:39 am

The whole deal with Rick though is this- he flatlined in the hospital well before the world went completely to hell. He died. Am I the only one to have caught that??? And then he came back. With no medical treatment, he revived. The big twist is that he, and his likely genetic resistance to the virus, is the CURE to the plague. While he may die, it would be at the end in a heroically cliche “dying so all can live” kind of way.
