Deadly Premonition Coming to Steam Greenlight

How would one describe “Deadly Premonition” to someone who has never played it?  How about this: It’s essentially “Twin Peaks” as told from the perspective of a crazy Asian guy.  Is it a great game?  Not at all.  The gameplay is unfulfilling, the voice acting is all over the place, there are constant weird audio and visual quirks, and the story is just bat-shit crazy.  Yet, somehow, all of those flaws seem to balance each other out to create a pretty endearing experience that’ll make you laugh and cry for all the wrong reasons.

“Deadly Premonition” was originally released on the XBox 360 and PS3 back in 2010.  The game was designed by Hidetaka “Swery65″ Suehiro, a man whose persona has reached legendary heights within the gaming community.  At it’s core, the game is practically a retelling of “Twin Peaks.”  An eccentric FBI Agent named Francis York Morgan comes to a small town to investigate the murder of Anna Graham, a popular young local girl.  However, his investigation is complicated by the fact that the town is populated with people who have their own strange quirks and mysteries going on.  The biggest difference between the two properties is that “Deadly Premonition” swerves deeper into the psychological horror side of things.  York is routinely besieged upon by ghosts and monsters as he tries to solve the mystery of who murdered Anna Graham.

A “Director’s Cut” edition of the game was released on consoles in 2013 which, along with improved gameplay mechanics and visuals, added new costumes for York, extra side missions written by Swery65, and additional cutscenes.

Now PC gamers are finally about to get their chance to find out what all the hype is about as it was announced today that Rising Star Games has submitted “Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut” to Steam Greenlight.  That means that before it can reach the marketplace, it’ll need enough “Yes” votes from the general public and approval by Steam to get through the vetting process.  Given the game’s ever-growing fanbase, it shouldn’t take long to rack up the votes.
