Drew Struzan Documentary to Debut at Comic-Con

Jason McDonald

Whether or not you’re a cinema geek, you’ve probably encountered and been engrossed by Drew Struzan’s art.  The legendary poster artist has been responsible for some of the most iconic pop-culture images for the last four decades.   Films of all genres and size have been graced by Drew’s incredible talent.  From “Star Wars” to “The Thing” and even “Police Academy”, Drew Struzan has created a sizable and impressive portfolio that will be remembered for years to come.

When Drew announced that he was retiring in 2008, it created a measurable impact in the cinema community.  To mark the occasion, filmmaker Erik P. Sharkey (best surname I’ve ever seen) set out to create a documentary detailing the artists career.  “Drew: The Man Behind the Poster” brings together an amazing group of people including: George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford, Michael J. Fox, Frank Darabont, Guillermo del Toro, and many more to discuss the works and impact of Drew Struzan.

On July 19th, the documentary will be making it’s debut at San Diego Comic Con with a screening at the Gaslamp 15.  The documentary will then screen in New York City on August 16th, with additional screenings to be announced.  It’ll finally hit VOD this fall.  You can view the trailer for the film below.
