The Hellboy 3 movie rumors are once again roaring thanks to an interview with Guillermo Del Toro where he indicated that Hellboy 3 was finally going to see the light of day. Guillermo talked to STYD and let it be known that Hellboy 3 may be moving ahead at Legendary Pictures the studio he is working with on Pacific Rim the big budget monsters vs robots picture.
There is of course two minor snags with this whole idea of Legendary Pictures making Hellboy 3 with Guillermo Del Toro. The first of which is the Hellboy comic creator does not seem to want Guillermo Del Toro to do Hellboy 3.
Mike Mignola told MTV Splashpage he is not a fan of Guillermo Del Toro doing Hellboy 3 because… spoiler alert…. he kills off Hellboy.
Mike Mignola told MTV Splashpage in 2010 quote;
“The problem is, what del Toro’s talked about to me is that ‘Hellboy 3′ would be the end of Hellboy… My version of Hellboy in the comics is a finite story, but it’s going to take me 15 years to get to that ending. If [del Toro] makes ‘Hellboy 3′ and it’s the death of Hellboy, I’m left doing the comic going, ‘But I’m not done yet.’”
So Mike Mignola is definitely it seems not a fan of a Hellboy 3 movie. Mike posted a slightly different answer on his Facebook page where he noted that the biggest stumbling block is that Universal has no interest in Hellboy 3. He writes quote ( via ScreenRant ) ;
About a third Hellboy film–
There are a couple articles out floating around out there right now that sort of make it sound like I don’t want a third movie made or even implying that somehow I might in some way stopping a third one from being made–That’s just stupid. I have no idea why these things are popping up now. I’m asked all the time if a third film is in the works and I always say there isn’t–Because there isn’t.
Simple as that. Of course I would be thrilled to see a third one made.I know Ron would like to do it and I think if ANYONE could talk Universal into it it would be del Toro. After #2 someone at the studio assured me that they would NEVER make a third and that was the last contact I had with anyone at Universal. That was a long time ago and things change and I do hope things will change, but who knows.
Certainly it all has nothing to do with me. The fate of a third film is entirely somewhere between del Toro and Universal.
Further complicating the chances of a Hellboy 3 movie is the fact that Guillermo Del Toro and Legendary Pictures do not have the rights and can not make the movie according to IO9 who posted an update on Hellboy 3 three hours ago quotting a big wig at Legendary pictures saying quote;
Seeing how we don’t own the rights to Hellboy, there may be lawyers that would get upset about that. But you know, in Guillermo’s world, maybe he can make that go away. I don’t know. [Laughs]
So simply put I would not be holding your breath for a Hellboy 3 Movie happening anytime soon.
