As we get closer to the release of the “Oldboy” trailer on Wednesday FilmDistrict is generating anticipation for the day by releasing a few cryptic images. The first of which was the poster, which was released just yesterday. Personally, I thought it was a good little teaser poster that works if you’ve seen the original film. However, if you haven’t, I can understand why nothing about it would make any sort of sense.
Then, on their Oldboy Facebook fanpage, they’ve been counting down to the trailer’s release by putting out images of a hand with numerical marks on it. With the countdown coming to an end, we got a glimpse at the prison that Josh Brolin’s character finds himself in. You can check it out below the synopsis.
Oldboy is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.
The film is being directed by Spike Lee and stars Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, and Sharlto Copley. “Oldboy” is written by Mark Protosevich, who previously worked on “Thor” and “I Am Legend.” The film is, of course, based on the 2003 korean film of the same name which was directed by Park Chan-wook. Both films are based upon a manga series that was released in 1996. It hits theaters on October 25th.
