Outlast Hits PCs in September

Jason McDonald

Red Barrels’ first indie-title “Outlast” will finally be available to own on September 4th on PCs.  The game is also slated to come to the PS4, but there’s no word on when that’ll happen.

In the remote mountains of Colorado, horrors wait inside Mount Massive Asylum. A long-abandoned home for the mentally ill, recently re-opened by the “research and charity” branch of the transnational Murkoff Corporation, has been operating in strict secrecy… until now.

Acting on a tip from an inside source, independent journalist Miles Upshur breaks into the facility, and what he discovers walks a terrifying line between science and religion, nature and something else entirely. Once inside, his only hope of escape lies with the terrible truth at the heart of Mount Massive.

The game will be available to purchase on Steam for $19.99.  You can check out their site for more details.

On a personal note, I’ve been anticipating this game’s release for some time now. The way they seemingly blend first person running and stealth is seamless and terrifying.  This is the sort of game that seems to be perfectly in tune with what horror fans want.  I can’t wait to see if Red Barrels is able to deliver on what they showcased in the trailer below.

As long as people make mods for it, I’ll be all over this. I see this as Amnesia 2.0
