What is this madness? A Paranormal Activity that won’t be coming out in October? There is literally pandemonium in the streets! Wait…no… That’s just my neighbor mowing his lawn. Always lording his new Black & Decker electric mower over me. Yeah, I see you. You bastard.
Yesterday we told you that there were rumblings about the latest Paranormal Activity movie not making it’s annual October release date. Then there were conflicting reports from producer Jason Blum who indicated that the film was still on track for an October release.
Now we have “official” word that the film has indeed moved to January. I use quotes, because this kind of an odd source. Exhibitor Relations just tweeted out that “Paranormal Activity 5” will hit theaters on January 3, 2014 instead of October 25, 2013.
Why the push back? Is there trouble with the production? Or is Paramount simply looking to follow in the footsteps of “The Devil Inside” which made gangbusters at the box office when it was released in January. And if that’s the case, why would it matter? Paranormal Activity has been an extremely lucrative franchise. A move isn’t going to change the fact that it was already destined to make a ton of money. It’s an odd situation, I’d be interested in hearing more about the decision making going on behind-the-scenes.
