CHEW: TV Adaptation of Cannibal Cop Graphic Novel Coming Soon

Tony Chu is cibopathic.chew

That means that whatever Tony eats, for instance an apple, he immediately has flashes in his head that tell him which tree it grew on, what kind of pesticides were used on the crop, and when it was harvested.  As you can imagine, this could be quite useful as a detective for the Philadelphia P.D.

Although I’ve only read the first volume to John Layman and Rob Guillory‘s ingenious graphic novel, Chew, I found the story to be incredibly unique and the characters contemporary yet whimsical.

Motion comic creator Jeff Krelitz (The Crazies, Spartacus: Blood & Sand), has expressed his desire to turn Chew into a motion comic and eventually a live-action television series.

Although it was developed as a pilot for Showtime, the project eventually fell through the cracks and joined many others in development limbo.  Thanks to Jeff Krelitz though, the potential for a live-action series has taken in new life and we’re hoping he finds a suitable network for the insanely enjoyable comic.

What do you think about a Chew live-action series?  Think it could work without being too formulaic?  Let us know in the comments below and we’ll keep you posted on any developments.
