El Cucuy Comes to Horror Nights with Danny Trejo

Jason McDonald

Since the debut of “La Llorona” at Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights a few years back, I’ve been really hoping they would tackle another hispanic folklore legend: El Cucuy. This year, it looks like I’m finally getting my wish as “El Cucuy: The Boogeyman” is coming to Hollywood.

For those of you that didn’t grow up with crazy hispanic family members that relished in the enjoyment of terrifying little kids with spooky tales, El Cucuy is the all-encompassing name given to the monster in the darkness.  Otherwise known as “The Boogeyman”, which is why Universal Studios Hollywood’s latest attraction for Horror Nights is called “El Cucuy: The Boogeyman.”

What’s going to add a special layer of flavoring to this attraction is that legendary character actor Danny Trejo will be doing the narration for the maze.  Check out the video below where he gives a small example of what you can expect.

According to Universal Studios Creative Director John Murdy, the “El Cucuy” attraction will also incorporate other elements of hispanic culture. For instance, the infamous “Island of Dolls” will feature into the maze on some level and Lucha Libre horror films of the 60s will be utilized in some way to tell the story of the maze.
