First Details and Trailer for Zombeavers

ZombeaversDirector Jordan Rubin was recently lucky enough to be interviewed by Time about his upcoming indie horror/comedy Zombeavers. Indie films have always been a huge hit with Hollywood because they can make the biggest buck on them. Of course it is hard as hell to breakthrough and actually convince a studio to pick your film up. But with films like Paranormal Activity and Cabin Fever it has been done.

To get some producers to jump on board he made a prood of concept trailer that just bunches footage from a bunch of different movies together. It is nifty and will give you a sense of what he wants to do and it worked. Zombeavers landed veteran producers like Evan Astrowsky, who made the similarly-economical 2003 cult horror film Cabin Fever, as well as JC Spink and Chris Bender, the executive producers of horror movies like The Ring and comedies like The Hangover.

I suggest going over and reading the Time article for yourself. It’s an interesting read especially for anyone who is considering directing their own indie film. Below you can check out the proof of concept he put together.

Synopsis: Zombeavers is an action-packed horror/comedy in which a group of college kids staying at a riverside cabin are menaced by a swarm of deadly zombie beavers. A weekend of sex and debauchery soon turns gruesome as the beavers close in on the kids. Riding the line between scary, sexy and funny, the kids are soon fighting for their lives in a desperate attempt to fend off the hoard of beavers that attack them in and around their cabin.

With due respect for the filmmakers what horror fan buys horror movies or see’s them based off what Entertainment Weekly says about it?

Its a solid concept trailer even though it steels liberally from all kinds of films other then that quote and the horrendous Avril Lavigne music which is out of place.

I mean, are they serious with this? From the outset I guess you could say they’ve maybe done as best you could with a movie called Zombeavers. But you lost me at “based on real events” or whatever it said. And that EW critic quote? I guess I just feel like if youre gonna make a ridiculous movie in any genre (Sharknado anyone?) then let it be what it is. Theres nothing wrong with movies like that. I rather enjoy them. But it seems, I dont know, odd to try and pass it as something much scarier and serious. Unless it was all a joke? I’m just confused. So many feelings. Haha!

P.S. I will definitely watch this movie, so I’m not ripping it apart. Just voicing my confused emotions. ; )
