Is Universal Planning a Jaws Reboot?

I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t even make it ten minutes into Sharknado.  Even being under-the-influence didn’t help the hilariously bad special effects look better and it certainly didn’t help the preposterous story or ridiculous acting – but I suppose that’s the point.

Well it seems Universal has jumped on the “shark bandwagon” and is planning a reboot to the film that launched Steven Spielberg‘s career back in 1975.  A recent posting at Mandy.com (the Craigslist of film) is asking for crew for the Jaws reboot.

Filming supposedly begins in January 2015, and the reason I say ‘supposedly’ is because there is some doubt as to the authenticity of the post.  Much like Craigslist, anybody can create an account and post on Mandy.  Apparently there’ve been hoaxes before regarding a Jaws reboot, so don’t be too shocked if we find out this is nothing but a bunch of horse manure too.

No word on anything as far as cast, writers and directors go, but if this post is legit I’m sure we’ll hear something soon.

As far as a Jaws reboot goes, I’m sure like many of you are – I am not a fan of reboots/sequels/prequels.  Genuine original content is hard to come by these days, and if there is indeed a reboot it better be amazing.  Most shark-related films are either documentaries or b-horror films, so they’re certainly not as scary as they used to be.

Although my distaste for reboots far exceeds my will of unbiased opinion, I still get a little giddy when talking about a Steven Spielberg film.  Seriously, you can’t go wrong with a Steven Spielberg film.

Whether Mr. Spielberg will be involved in any way has yet to be determined, but it couldn’t hurt to have him.  Sadly he’s backed away from directing and taken a more passive role as executive producer these days, something we wish he’d reconsider.  Although he directed the mildly successful Tintin and War Horse (as well as the Academy Award winning film, Lincoln), we haven’t seen much of the pizazz we’re used to.
