Pacific Rim Sequel Likely Thanks to China

Pacific Rim 3Guillermo del Toro is definitely a happy man right now. Wednesday night Pacific Rim opened in China to a whopping $9 million from an estimated 5,700 digital 3D screens, 117 digital 3D IMAX screens, and 22 China Giant Screen sites. That’s a new high for any Warner Bros release and 23% bigger than for any Harry Potter film including 3D Harry Potter 7B. Pacific Rim grossed a huge 70% of the Top Five market share there.

All this international buzz is making it more and more likely that a sequel will happen. Unfortunately in the states it doesn’t look like the movie will make more than $100 million but thanks to the all the overseas coin it looks like we will get to see more from the fantastical mind of del Toro in the Pacific Rim universe.

DanofDarkness » There’s a flaw in your theory: Knowby wasn’t Linda’s father, he was father to Annie (played by Sarah Berry), the archaeologist/researcher we meet in ED 2 who arrives by plane. Linda was Ash’s girlfriend. Perhaps you meant Annie? Also, Annie died after Ash’s evil, severed hand stabbed her in the back with the Kandarian dagger. Or maybe she DIDN’T die??? What if………Annie somehow managed to remove the dagger from her back, make it out of the cabin without getting sucked into the vortex, cross the ravine without use of the bridge OR the trail they took to the cabin (even AFTER the hick dude’s realization the trail they arrived on was “gone”), made her way to a healthcare facility, received treatment and made a full physical recovery. :) What’s more is…if Fede/Raimi/Campbell can create a plausible story out of the nonsense I just spewed out, THAT experience would serve as the perfect excuse for Mia and David’s mother being confined to a mental institution. Any thoughts?
