Cabin in the Woods FX Team Crowd Funding Preternatural

Two very well known FX masters are kick starting a new movie about fairies and its not the kind of fairies that give you quarters for your teeth. On the contrary you will need to think more along the lines of Hellboy but presumably much darker. Tim Cunningham emailed us today to share details about his upcoming project which he is funding on Indiegogo and to ask for your help.

You may not know Tim Cunningham’s face or even his name but you have seen his work which includes designing creatures for films such as LAND OF THE LOST, RED RIDING HOOD, THE CABIN IN THE WOODS, and R.I.P.D. and concept art for films including MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR, CIRQUE DU FREAK, THE WOLFMAN, X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, and SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN.

The team behind the 2012 indie thriller SICK BOY describes the new project as an unreliable documentary about fairies.  “It’s not a found footage film,” says writer / director Tim T. Cunningham.  “Nothing against them, but this will be something more in the ballpark of TROLL HUNTER, but without any of the comedic trappings.  It’s going to be a straight up horror film.”

PRETERNATURAL is designed to start like a true crime documentary investigating the mysterious disappearance of an accused murderer, but quickly turns into a tale of monsters when questions are raised as to whether the person the accused allegedly murdered is actually dead.  Promising to take full advantage of their visual effects backgrounds which span more than 35 combined years and more than 60 feature films, the Cunningham brothers aim to create an experience that feels as real as possible.  “It’s not like we’re going to be marketing this as a true story or anything,” explains cinematographer / visual effects supervisor Sean C. Cunningham.  “But if we can make the documentary sections feel absolutely authentic it should really add an extra layer of threat to the horror elements.”

The campaign runs through September 24, 2013. If you would like to contribute money to the campaign you can do so here Below you can checkout a video where Chris and Tim Cunningham talk about the project and show off some of their very impressive visual FX skills.
