Christina Hendricks is covering all the bases with her participation in the upcoming film “Dark Places.” Originally the “Mad Men” starrer was supposed to play the role of a down-on-her-luck stripper, now Deadline is reporting that her role in the film has shifted from supporting to lead.
Instead of portraying stripper Krissi Cates, Christina will now play Patty Day, the mother of Charlize Theron’s character Libby Davis. In the film, Libby is forced to relive the massacre of her family when a group of young sleuths start prying into the case. Hendricks will play Patty Day via flashbacks which will feature prominently throughout the film as Libby tries to piece together what really happened that fateful day.
Originally the role of Patty was to be played by actress Samantha Morton, however, when she had to exit the film the producers approached Hendricks about taking over the part. Obviously, a wise move, as anyone who has seen Christina in “Mad Men” will know that she’s a very strong and capable actor.
“Dark Places” is based on a book written by Gillian Flynn. The film will be directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner and stars Charlize Theron, Chloe Grace Moretz, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, and Corey Stoll. The film is due out sometime next year.
