Jamie Lee Curtis and Steve Miner Team-up for “The Final Girls”

Jamie Lee Curtis is returning to her horror roots for a brand new project called “The Final Girls.” However, this won’t be coming to the big screen.  In fact, it’s going to be a TV show on ABC Family.

Deadline has learned that Jamie Lee Curtis (“Halloween”) and Steve Miner (“Halloween H20″) are reuniting once again to bring a new horror-themed show to ABC Family.  According to Deadline, Curtis will star in the series which will be directed and produced by Miner.

The series will “revolve around a group of girls who have, in essence, survived their own personal horror stories, and are brought together by a mysterious older woman (Curtis) to channel the stress and scars of their experience for some greater good. “

And while the pairing of Curtis and Miner makes sense, bringing the show to ABC Family might seem a little odd to some people.  However, Steve Miner has actually had a long and prolific relationship with the seemingly family oriented network.  Over the years he’s directed numerous pilots and series for the network.  Also, not that I know this from personal experience, but the channel has had a strong focus on teenage female-driven dramas. So, really, the marriage of “The Final Girls” and ABC Family makes a lot of sense.

The show seems to be in the very early stages of development.  So early that a pilot hasn’t even been ordered by ABC Family.  However, Deadline is reporting rumors that it could be fast tracked into development very soon.  Given that the TV horror genre market is still profitable (see: Sleepy Hollow), I wouldn’t doubt that ABC Family would want to get on this as soon as possible.
