Jurassic Park 4 Becomes Jurassic World

Jurassic Park 4 Becomes Jurassic World

The next highly anticipated sequel in the Jurassic Park franchise is ditching the numerical title and is instead opting for it’s own unique name.

Universal Pictures has announced today that “Jurassic Park 4″ will now be known as “Jurassic World.” Making “Jurassic Park 3″ the only sequel to have a number in it’s title and even more of an oddball in the series.

Universal also gave the film a definitive release date of June 12, 2015.  The upcoming sequel will be directed by Colin Trevorrow (“Safety Not Guaranteed”) and will be based on a script written by him and Derek Connolly (“Safety Not Guaranteed”).

Now, of course, the big question is what does the title mean?  Calling it “Jurassic World” has some grandiose implications.  Does it mean that the next movie will be a global event?  Or is the name a play on theme parks like Disney World?  In which case, that means we’re looking at an even bigger setting.

Earlier in the year there were some strong rumors about the next film being about a seemingly successful version of Jurassic Park that was complete with a fully realized water section.  Could this mean that there might have been some truth to that rumor?  Unfortunately all we have right now are questions and guesses.  It’ll be quite some time before we hear anything concrete out of Universal.  Until then, speculate away!
