Man Passes Out During TIFF Premiere of ‘Afflicted’

Ryan Sternfels

This is a good year for horror as TIFF reaches it’s halfway mark.  With Eli Roth‘s The Green Inferno already lined up for a sequel, and Oculus writers/directors Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard re-teaming with MICA Entertainment for Somnia, it’s shaping up to be a Midnight Madness lineup to remember.

During the world premiere of Afflicted last night at TIFF, one young man apparently couldn’t handle the intensity of the found-footage vampire flick.  According to Borys Kit of THR, the man, “…became woozy, hyperventilating as he stumbled out of the screening and barely managing to make it to a bench to get himself together.”

Is that insane or what?

The micro-budget film was written and directed by Canadian filmmakers Derek Lee and Clif Prowse, who also star in the film as two friends traveling Europe when suddenly one gets bitten and things go from bad to worse as his condition escalates.

When I first read “vampire found footage” I immediately thought of the Amateur Night segment of the 2012 horror hit V/H/S, which like many of you made me reconsidered my tactics in picking up random chicks at clubs.  Or at least freaky cat, bat creatures who want to drop me from fifty feet in the air even though they claimed to ‘like me’ on several occasions.  Women…

If Afflicted is anywhere near as amazing as Amateur Night was, which we suspect it is, you can catch it’s U.S premiere at Fantastic Fest in Austin coming September 19th.

Yeah I’ve read about this which made the movie number one (with so many others) on my list. One thing for sure, found footage is alive and well!
