Sam Raimi Is Currently Writing the Army of Darkness II

Chris Savage

army-of-darkness-1With the remake of the Evil Dead now done and dusted, all eyes are on Sam Raimi, Fede Alvarez and Bruce Campbell, as we look to see where they are going to take us next. Will it be a sequel to the remake or another sequel to the original franchise or just something entirely different?

Well, while nothing is set in stone at this time, the guys over B-D recently had the chance to speak with Fede Alvarez in regards to the next Evil Dead film. And it appears as if Raimi is set on the Army of Darkness II instead of moving forward on a sequel to the remake.

Alvarez told the site;

The pressure is on them now. Because as far as I know, and heard, Sam is really determined to get Army Of Darkness 2 happening. He is actually writing [it now].

Now simply because Raimi is writing the Army of Darkness II, doesn’t mean that it will be their next film or even happen at all, but, I am intrigued as to where Raimi decides to take us in the next Army of Darkness.

But I ask you. Do you want a sequel to the remake or the Army of Darkness II, or perhaps none at all? Sound of below.

I loved the remake. I felt Alvarez did the franchise much justice with his Evil Dead. I’m all in for a sequel to the remake, or a sequel to AoD. Or both.

Writers create and not produce ideas all the time; but this is getting press, so it may happen. But I’m not excited about the idea. I will have to know more.

Army of Darkness sucked. Original Evil Dead was awesome and a straight up smack you in the face horror film and Rami ruined the sequels by making them comedies.

        • Drewby April 14, 2014 at 10:24 pm

          Cool story bro

      26. Tiago September 21, 2013 at 11:59 pm

I would prefer to see a sequel to Army of Darkness with Bruce Campbell. The ending of that remake was so bizarre, a kind of happy ending, I really don’t care what happens next.

        • Herner Klenthur September 22, 2013 at 12:15 am

Completely agree. The alternate ending of Army of Darkness where he awakens in a cave sets things up perfectly to accomadate his age! Bring back Bruce Campbell.

        • Tiago September 22, 2013 at 1:43 am

I didn’t know that alternate ending, just watched it on you tube. Very nice, it would be really awesome!

      27. Creature September 22, 2013 at 12:10 am

Ooooh. Very interesting little tid bit of information from Fede Alvarez. I hope to hear an update as to Mr. Raimi’s plan for the next ED film in the near future.

      28. Joe Parks September 22, 2013 at 12:45 am

I SO hope it isn’t a direct sequel to Army of Darkness. That goofy wate of time causd me to lose faith in Raimi. I want another in the vein of ED2

      29. Jonathan September 22, 2013 at 2:30 am

I very much enjoyed Fede Alvarez’ remake and would love to see the team move forward on its sequel and build upon the world they created. One of the rare instances when the new version has threads to the original and satisfies fans of the original all while adding its own flair to make it stand on its own 😀

      30. Brendan Knapp September 22, 2013 at 8:15 am

Disagree, Johnny Miller. He made three movies in three horror genres. All run the same timeline, but are unique. How would you propose he make Evil Dead 2 without playing out the same ideas of the first?

      31. William Patterson September 22, 2013 at 12:46 pm

        Will Fede Alvarez produce ?

      32. Alex Miller September 22, 2013 at 7:50 pm

        Bob Miller

      33. Rafizan September 23, 2013 at 5:06 am

I love the remake and the original. I think I’m gonna say both. Hopefully the filmmakers maintain the cinematography-style of the series. Or maybe it is not suitable anymore for all these hip, young generation z???

      34. james September 23, 2013 at 10:23 am

What a nightmare! “Army of Darkness” is an awful film that plays out more like a “Xena” episode, complete with dumb gags and prat falls. I really hope this isn’t true because he handed the torch over to someone else already. Don’t be an Indian giver Sam.

      35. billyb September 24, 2013 at 2:55 am

nightmare? Army of Darkness is a cult classic for a lot of reasons, if you think its bad James, you should keep that opinion to yourself, because many people love the film including myself. Oh and the “dumb gags” that resemble an episode of Xena, well Sam Rami played a big part in Xena, he also wrote Army of Darkness to be a horror comedy, not a serious film.

This is where things get tricky… I want a sequel to the originals (cuz the remake was total garbage) BUT it has to follow the DC…that ending was epic. They COULD pull it off by having the S-Mart ending of the theatrical be what he was DREAMING while he over slept. That way they can incorporate both (after the traditional re-cap opening)…

      38. benjamin peterssen September 25, 2013 at 10:49 am

Whether you want it or not just let me have this movie, if you think it will ruin your evil dead experience then don’t watch OK, but i defenatly will be because good or bad its ash and I’ve waited a long time.
