New Alien Game to Star Ripley’s Daughter

Despite the fact that “Alien: Colonial Marines” turned out to be a hot mess, it would appear as if someone believes there’s another game that can be mined out of that franchise.  Hopefully not as many miners will be lost in the process this time.

According to Kotaku and their source, the next game in the Alien franchise will center around Ellen Ripley’s daughter.  Fans of the “Alien” series will note that Ellen did, in fact, have a daughter.  However, all we know about her is that she married, had no kids, and died before Ripley was woken up in “Aliens.”  That potentially leaves a lot of room for a story, though it was never suggested that her daughter ever had dealings with the Xenomorphs.

The game will be called “Alien: Isolation” and if you still have a sour taste in your mouth from the last game, don’t worry, so does Sega.  According to the Kotaku article, Sega is well aware of the negative reception to their last game and have reevaluated their process to ensure that “Isolation” is a much better product.  That’s all well and good, but it’ll be interesting to see if they can deliver on those sentiments.

The game is being developed by Creative Assembly, the studio behind “Total War”, and it’s set to be a FPS shooter with stealth and horror elements. In the game you’ll be playing as Amanda Ripley, Ellen’s daughter.  It seems as if the game is looking to make the Xenomoprhs an actual threat this time around.  According to Kotaku’s source, there will only be one Xenomorph featured in the game.  Most of the time Amanda will be dealing with clones and soldiers.

Hopefully that pans out to be true.  One of  the biggest problems with the Alien games is that the Xenomorphs rarely feel like the threats that they are in the movies.  After you’ve blown up fifty of them, they start not be so terrifying.  Having one Xenomorph stalk and haunt you through a space station sounds like a step in the right direction to bring a great deal of menace to this one noble creature.
