Tim Burton in Talks for Beetlejuice 2

Jason McDonald 42 Comments

The question of whether or not the world will see “Beetlejuice 2″ seems to be nearing an answer.  While a script is currently being written and with Michael Keaton willing to return to his legendary role as the devious entity, there was really only one element missing from the project: a director.

The Wrap has learned that Tim Burton, the original director of “Beetlejuice”, is in talks to return to the director’s chair for one more shot at the ghost with the most.  Nothing is confirmed yet, but The Wrap is pointing towards “individuals familiar with the project” as their source for the information.

Tim Burton just finished his current project, “Big Eyes”, and it would appear as if he doesn’t have any other projects lined-up yet.  So it’s a strong possibility that he could return to “Beetlejuice.”  Given that his last film, “Dark Shadows”, was a financial failure it could be that Burton is looking for a project that might be a surefire success.

I know that the general feeling about Tim Burton these days is, more or less, cold.  However, if “Beetlejuice 2″ is going to happen then there’s no one else I’d rather see in the director’s chair then Tim Burton.  Perhaps he can muster a bit of that gothic magic again and make a grand return to the darkly comedic world he once helped to create.

UM, of course they would be in it. He has a formula and people are stupid enough to keep paying to see it.

As long as it’s well under $100million; nice and low budget that forces him to be creative. Burton has lost his edge for storytelling and has simply focused on kooky visuals and everyone still seems to like him for that; right until ‘Dark Shadows’.
I think Burton needs to get back to his roots, do something low-budget and offbeat that is more story versus visual centered.

Beetlejuice 2. Beetlejuice goes Hawaiian. “Didn’t we say everything in the first Beetlejuice movie. Must we go tropical”? Said Kevin Smith.

I DON’T KNOW HOW TO FEEL ABOUT THIS

      31. Joe Minicilli October 22, 2013 at 11:36 am

Michael Keaton IS reprising his role, or so he says. Winona Ryder should be as well. However, Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis cant be because they’re old now, and ghosts can’t age. Tim Burton is at his best with his original material and not classic stories or remakes, so it should be good.

      32. Jocelyn Guillemette October 22, 2013 at 11:50 am

        …No.

      33. Brittany Wilson October 22, 2013 at 12:13 pm

I hope so! I think it’ll be good even if Johnny Depp and Helena Carter play in Bettlejuice 2 (IF it happens!).

      34. William Hollis October 22, 2013 at 2:48 pm

No. He needs to leave it alone.
