What to Expect from the PS4

With a new console generation looming on the horizon, horror enthusiasts will soon have new devices by which they can get their thrills.  Whether you use your system for streaming horror movies, playing blu-rays, or killing zombies it’s important to know just what the new generation of video game consoles will be capable of.

Earlier today Sony unleashed a massive FAQ for the Playstation 4 which covers just about any question you might have about the system.  If you’ve got the time, you can read the whole thing right here. It’s pretty in-depth, but we’ll lay out some of the key points for you right here.

  • The PS4 comes with a 500GB hard drive at launch. While they won’t support external drives, you can pull out and replace it with a bigger one.
  • The PS4 will, of course, play Blu-rays. It’ll also play your DVDs (for those who refuse to upgrade their movie collection).  However, that mix CD your ex-boyfriend made you in an ill-fated attempt to reconnect will not work on the PS4.  No audio CD support on the PS4.
  • The PS4 will have a day-one update that people must get in order to use their systems.  If they don’t want to connect their systems to the internet they can contact Sony and get a special disc with the launch update.

And the most important aspect of any new console launch are the games that’ll come with it.  Included with the FAQ is a list of all the games that’ll be available for the PS4 on launch day.  Unfortunately, no horror games made the list.  Here’s what you can expect though:

  • Flower
  • Killzone: Shadow Fall
  • Knack
  • Resogun
  • Sound Shapes
  • Contrast
  • Pinball Arcade
  • Super Motherload
  • Tiny Brains
  • Warframe

Along with a bunch of third-party games that are currently (or soon to be) available on current gen systems.

  • Angry Birds Star Wars
  • Assassins Creed IV Black Flag
  • Call of Duty Ghosts
  • DC Universe Online
  • FIFA 14
  • Battlefield 4
  • Just Dance 2014
  • Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition
  • Lego Marvel Super Heroes
  • Madden NFL 25
  • NBA 2K14
  • Skylanders Swap Force

It’s a pretty big info dump, but well worth checking out if you’re debating whether to buy a PS4 or XBox One.  Hopefully Microsoft will soon publish an equally sizeable FAQ in the lead up to their launch.
