New Evil Dead Sequel is Dead : Writers Drop Out

Seems like we might be waiting a bit longer for a sequel to the 2013 remake of Evil Dead.  The hotly debated film brought in newcomers Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues as screenwriters with Alvarez in the director’s chair.  They even signed on producer Robert Tapert from the original, as well as horror-master Sam Raimi, and even Bruce Campbell himself to produce the remake.

We were teased with the possibility of a sequel during WonderCon, and even Alvarez himself said they were working on the script.  It appears this is no longer the case due to a recent interview with Gorosito.TV:

Look, I am sorry to tell you this but that movie won’t happen. Evil Dead 2 is not going to happen, at least not with us involved. We left that project many months ago because we preferred to put our energies on other things. I don’t know if the producers still have intentions of making it. But what I can tell you is that we are not part of that project.

His statement seems a little hostile if you ask me, so I wonder how and when things went wrong.  As Alvarez unfortunately stated, he doesn’t even know if the producers are planning on a sequel.  However, Army of Darkness still has the greenlight primarily thanks to the push of Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, the latter of which plans to reprise his role as Ash.

Are you disappointed to hear of Alvarez and Sayagues‘ departure from the franchise?  Let us know in the comments!  And check out the trailer for Evil Dead (2013) below.
