Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead 2 Lives Again!

army-of-darkness-1Despite rumors earlier in the week that Evil Dead 2 was dead and that the writers had left the project it seems it is very much alive. Earlier in the week Ryan ran the news that Fede Alvarez and his writing partner had abandoned the project.

In  a recent interview with Gorosito.TV Fede revealed;

Look, I am sorry to tell you this but that movie won’t happen. Evil Dead 2 is not going to happen, at least not with us involved. We left that project many months ago because we preferred to put our energies on other things. I don’t know if the producers still have intentions of making it. But what I can tell you is that we are not part of that project.

Fans responded in waves on our site in response to this news with an almost even split of ‘Thank God they are not doing this’ and ‘It is sad news’. It would seem after much back and forth that this whole thing was just a huge misunderstanding. Fede took to his twitter page to say that people shouldnt believe everything they read on the internet. This in itself is a bit confusing given HE is the one who said what ended up on the internet.

It turns out that Fede is now saying he was simply misunderstood according to BD. The project is very much alive but has been shelved for awhile while Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell complete work on Army of Darkness 2. Frankly this news makes me very happy since Evil Dead 2 is very far down on my priority list in comparison to a sequel to Army of Darkness.

Army of Darkness 2 is going to be directed by Sam Raimi and will see Bruce Campbell return to reprise his role of Ash.  The story of Army of Darkness 2 will reportedly have some sort of tie into the remake of Evil Dead but we are not clear how at this point. Sam Raimi is writing the film with his long time writing partner his brother.

Are you interested in Army of Darkness 2? Or would you rather see Raimi work on Evil Dead 2?

        Bummer, the remake sucked big time. No need for a sequel.

        The remake was the best remake I’ve seen in forever. Consider it a different movie then think about the camera angles, lighting, and gore. Getting stabbed around the eye and through the glasses… brutal!!! after falling and hitting a toilet. Amazing scene. Take or leave the acting, nothing special.

        Would much rather them move ahead with “Evil Dead 2” and keep the momentum going as opposed to using the remake to piggyback a sequel to a film that frankly should have happened at least 15 years ago. With “Army of Darkness 2” not releasing until 2016, you’re talking 24 years later. And sure there are a handful of films that have had similar gaps in their franchises between one film and the next, but just let this one rest. Oh and this whole notion of them somehow tying the long delayed horror-comedy sequel into this modern vision we got from Fede is ridiculous. They are two separate monsters, don’t muddle things up by introducing a previous story that was more comedy than horror. How do you do that when the remake was all horror and no comedy, it was very dark and gritty. Yes audiences were divided on this remake, however in the world of remakes that have come and gone we all can agree that “Evil Dead” is definitely higher up in the ranks than the majority of others we have seen. But I digress, fact is “Army of Darkness 2” is coming and with a 2016 release date, we are sadly going to be waiting quite a while for Fede’s continuing modernized “Evil Dead” universe. :-/
