Sarah & John Connor Casting News, Terminator 5

Its been awhile since we have heard anything new on the upcoming Terminator 5 and frankly the last news we had on the topic was pretty damn shocking.

If you dont remember the last news we reported was that Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock is going to be playing a new type of Terminator and do battle with John Connor in the next Terminator installment. The only good news is that Arnold will return and once again he will have  a unique twist on his role.

I am a big fan of The Rock’s campy action flicks but don’t want him cramping my style and ruining an already beaten down Terminator franchise.

The latest Terminator 5 movie rumors that came out this week are pretty tame in comparison to The Rock news. They come from a site called SchmoesKnows that is reporting on the names that are being tossed around to play a 20 something Sarah Connor and a 20 something John Connor.

According to our top-secret source The Phantom (no, not Billy Zane in purple tights), actresses Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”), Brie Larson (“21 Jump Street”) and Margot Robbie (“The Wolf of Wall Street”) are being looked at for the role of Sarah Connor.  Her time-hopping son John is also being cast, with Boyd Holbrook (“The Host”) and Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy, On the Road) being considered.

If they are casting John Connor and Sarah Connor as the same age then it is a safe bet we are going to see time travel return as the main plot line for Terminator 5. This news needs to be taken with a grain of salt since the source is not solid but this does tie into earlier stories that have come out about Terminator 5.

According to the Examiner, one version of the script for Terminator 5 that was specifically for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, would see him play the villain in the forthcoming sequel and that it would involve time travel. The plot at that time revealed by The Examiner was going to see Arnold as the hero and The Rock as the villain;

Incredibly, Arnold Schwarzenegger may not play the role of a machine in the next film, but a potentially heroic human figure in or close to the Connor family. One theory is that Schwarzenegger’s remarkable ability to protect the Connor family in the 1940s or 1950s with antiquated weaponry by today’s standards ultimately inspired the machines to develop a terminator in his likeness that was eventually sent to 1984 when Sarah Connor was first targeted for termination.

Terminator 5 is being written by Patrick Lussier ( Drive Angry 3D) and Laeta Kalogridis ( Avatar ) and is rumored to be directed by Alan Taylor who directed Thor The Dark World. Justin Lin who was supposed to direct ending up leaving the project for Fast and the Furious.

The biggest thing to keep in mind with Terminator 5 is its actually titled Terminator (2015) because its not a sequel but a reboot. Skydance Productions, Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures confirmed that its a reboot and that it will be in theaters July 4th 2015.  So dont expect this installment to acknowledge or follow the timeline of the other terminator films.

What are your thoughts on Terminator 5? Excited? Or are you over the franchise?

        This would be cool. As much as I’d like to see a good Terminator flick set in the future, I could dig this.

        Why don’t u just finish the series and reboot after. This just kills the series without an ending. After years of waiting for an ending….. Just finish it!!!!

        I think it’s time to bury the Terminator franchise (as much as I hate saying it). And to think The Rock in his flamboyant way is going to star???? Let’s face it, nothing will even come close to T1 & T2. They all went down hill from there and any sequels are simply going to look like a desperate attempt to grab cash. Sad!

        Sorry, but I’ll struggle to even watch this on DVD.

        every new thing i hear about this movie wants me to see it less. so its gonna be a reboot that tells a different version of the story that they didn’t even finish in part 4? and its gonna be set in the 40′s or 50′s like Back To The Future where John Connor is the same age as his mom and he is gonna be hiding from being seen by an alternate version of himself that would cause the universe to collapse? two words FU#@ THIS!! the Terminator series is ending up just like the Predator films. start out best movie ever….. long road down the dog shit slide.
