The Purge 2 Is Officially ConfirmedThe Internet literally blew up with various news sources regarding a sequel to The Purge and while that is all well and good, there was nothing officially confirmed. However, the guys over at Variety have now officially confirmed that indeed The Purge 2 is going ahead and we have all the early details.

According to the site, James DeMonaco is returning to write and direct the sequel for Universal and Blumhouse. Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes and Sebastien Lemercier are also returning to produce the upcoming sequel.

Also, Blumhouse is also in line to receive a $2.25 million tax credit from the state of California for The Purge 2, and if it is cleared, this will cover 25% of the budget for the film.

Now, with the original film making $34 million at the domestic box office from a budget of just $3 million, it was always inevitable that a sequel would surface, but I ask you, do we really need a sequel?

The movie sucked but it ran smart ads that drove people to see it. And it made a ton on a tiny budget so a sequel was inevitable.

I liked it but it doesn’t need a sequel at all.

They should have made this more of a torture movie i felt like they could have done so much more to the people in the house by killing them in different gruesome ways instead it was nothing but guns

I hope they will follow a character that is actually poor and make a chasing and self-defense script. This would be better than the first one.

The first was hardly a BAD movie, but it certainly wasnt scary in the least. A good watch once, maybe twice. I dont think a sequel is a good idea, unless they actually try and make it scary this go ’round. If they can pull that off, Id give it a shot.

I’d rather a sequel to remake of The Crazies.. Containment in a city would be way more intense than in a rural area.. Same with the purge

this is what i want to know how can movie with such a great idea suck so bad. i cant think of a time that i was more disapointed in a movie. maybe theyll do it right this time. maybe actually explain and thing or to, actually get a feel for the world that the purge is in, maybe a get to know the people in the story a little bit, and maybe not make then so fucking stupid.
