It looks like crowdfunding your project is becoming a much more appealing source of income. It’s no longer the domain of the little guy trying to get his big break, now there are established artists giving the method a shot.
The beginning of the year saw director/actor/writer Zach Braff tap into crowdfunding gold when he took his project to Kickstarter. Then Spike Lee tried his hand at it and, despite a rough start, managed to garner a healthy amount of support. And now a name familiar to horror enthusiasts is tossing his hat into the ring.
Joe Dante is using FundAnything to help finance his upcoming film “Burying the Ex”. What’s different about this particular funding project is that the film is already well into production. It seems that the crowdfunding part will contribute to editing the film, visual effects, and getting it into theaters. In total, they’re looking to raise $200,000.
Of course, like with any other crowdfunding project, there are rewards to be had. The highest reward level is $17,500 and for that you get a co-executive producer credit and VIP treatment. However, if you don’t have that kind of cash burning a hole in your pocket there are an assortment of other levels available. Check them out on the official page.
Burying The Ex follows Max (YELCHIN), an all-around nice guy, and his overbearing but incredibly beautiful girlfriend, Evelyn (GREENE). Their relationship takes a nosedive after they decide to move in together and Evelyn turns out to be a controlling, manipulative nightmare. Max realizes it’s time to call it quits, but there’s just one problem: He’s too afraid to break up with her. Fate steps in when Evelyn is involved in a freak accident and dies, leaving Max single and ready to mingle. Several weeks later, he has a chance encounter with Olivia, a cute and spirited girl who just might be his soul mate. But that same night, Evelyn returns from the grave as a dirt-smeared zombie and she’s determined to get Max back…even if that means turning him into one of the undead!
“Burying the Ex” is being directed by Joe Dante based on a script written by Alan Trezza. The film stars Anton Yelchin (“Star Trek”), Ashley Greene (“Twilight”), Alexandra Daddario (“Texas Chainsaw 3D”), and Oliver Cooper (“Project X”).
