RoboCop Scores a PG-13 Rating

Chris Savage

hr_RoboCop_10Let’s be honest. We all knew it was inevitable, but deep down we all longed for the ultra-violence of the original. But, times have changed and it’s all about getting as many butts in seats as possible. Oh, RoboCop, what have they done to you?

The film has officially received a PG-13 rating for “intense sequences of action including frenetic gun violence throughout, brief strong language, sensuality and some drug material.”  However, just because a film is rated PG-13 it shouldn’t be written off just yet, as perhaps it may still deliver.

Synopsis: In “RoboCop,” the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy (Kinnaman) is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex’s life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

The film hits theatres this February 12th.

May I point out the way the rating systems have changed since the 80s? While there wont be any nudity in this movie, and who cares, its about robot cops anyway, the violence will not be toned down like it was for pg-13s in the 80s. There have been gory horror movies that have been rated pg-13 lately…..I don’t think it will make any bit of difference being rated what it is….

True but just think how much better it could be if it wasn’t this rating

Marc Hughes December 11, 2013 at 9:25 pm

Well lets see Pg-13 generally ruins R-rated franchises like; Robocop 3 garbage PG-13, Alien vs Predator garbage PG-13. Live free or Die Hard garbage PG-13, Drag me to hell garbage for more reason but PG-13………And the list could go on and on

      26. Tiffany Santiago December 11, 2013 at 6:52 pm

      27. Johnny Miller December 11, 2013 at 6:53 pm

That suxs. That means the violence that was do perfectly done in the first one won’t be in this one. ‘sigh’

      28. James Christopher Kennard December 11, 2013 at 6:55 pm

I got a horrible feeling its gonna be like the total recal remake

      29. Christien Doyle December 11, 2013 at 6:55 pm

Adrian Nichols, on a phone so cant reply directly. I dont think the violence and gore will be toned down at all, the language probably wont be stupid excessive and no nudity, will still make a decent movie IMO. Three just this year had plenty of special effects and violence. Iron Man 3, Man Of Steel and Fast and Furious 6. And those are the main stream movies. Then you got Drag Me To Hell, Live Free or Die Hard, The Dark Knight, Taken…..lot of violence in all those movies, and some with gore too.

Marc Hughes December 11, 2013 at 9:27 pm

True that Dredd movie does eat a bag of dicks total garbage, the only thing Dredd about it was Urban wearing a Dredd outfit. You could have literally out any character into that film and not have noticed.

      31. Paul December 11, 2013 at 6:58 pm

Oh well least we have the proper version still with ed-209 shooting the exec for a few minutes….
Was looking forward to it but now …..

      32. Justin Kole December 11, 2013 at 6:59 pm

Also I’d like to point out that Peter Weller is the best and only Robocop! !

      33. Seth Lane December 11, 2013 at 7:01 pm

With a Pg13 rating i’ll just skip this and watch the first movie. You can’t make a better movie by taking out all the real shit that made the first one….Big bummer for Robocop fans

      34. Lee Stacy December 11, 2013 at 7:10 pm

        Boo Robocop boo.

      35. Mike Dunn December 11, 2013 at 7:18 pm

There’s a reason why Robocop 3 sucked. One of the reasons being PG-13..

        • Marc Hughes
Marc Hughes December 11, 2013 at 9:22 pm

Yep thats part of exactly what killed Robocop 3, I’ll never understand how anyone can supprt this PG-13 garbage of franchises that were R-rated

      36. Justin Evans December 11, 2013 at 7:24 pm

It’s going to be like the Total Recall remake

      37. Andrew Rowe December 11, 2013 at 7:28 pm

        Booooooooo! :(

      38. Michael de Sade December 11, 2013 at 7:28 pm

        Saw it coming

      39. James Christopher Kennard December 11, 2013 at 8:29 pm

The comical amount of gore in the original was partly why that film was so epic eg van drives into acid melted guy come on that was genius

      40. Joshorror Verduzco December 11, 2013 at 9:00 pm

        FUCKING WEAK!!!!! MAN :/

      41. Christien Doyle December 11, 2013 at 9:48 pm

Drag me to hell has just ad much violence as any violent only rated r movie of the 80s…..just sayin……just admit you want to see tits and move on….

        • Nova February 2, 2014 at 5:06 pm

You are completely wrong; Nightmare On Elm Street and many others.

        Fuck this, not seeing it

      43. Stephen Waters December 11, 2013 at 10:27 pm

That tells me enough right there………boring!!!

      44. Andrew Staub December 11, 2013 at 10:44 pm

That’s bullshit! The original RoboCop was so fucking awesome. Part of the reason being the violence, especially in the unrated version. And I’m done with these remakes butt fucking my favorite movies.

      45. Sara Lee Bridges December 11, 2013 at 11:03 pm

      46. Timothy Camilleri December 11, 2013 at 11:30 pm

        Fuck this shit

      47. Bob Howard December 11, 2013 at 11:56 pm

      48. Wilber Peñate December 12, 2013 at 1:13 am

Ain’t nobody buying that for a DOLLAR!! Already 2 thumbs down!! LAME!!

      49. Darryl Baker December 12, 2013 at 9:01 am

Looks like a generic, cookie-cutter movie that doesn’t stand out from the other bland, forgettable movies that have been flooding the market these days. True, “The Avengers” was decent enough, I guess. I guess. But when I heard this 20-something gushing about “The Avengers” being the best movie ever, I was rather shocked and I was thinking “You haven’t seen very many movies, have you?”

      50. John Knight December 12, 2013 at 10:39 am

It’s official Marc Hughes is a dick. DREDD rules.

      51. Patrick Skare December 18, 2013 at 7:19 pm

This movie should have been protested from the start. Just say no to remakes.

      52. Jerry February 5, 2014 at 5:55 am

The new suit sucks already. Wtf is up with the black!!! And looking like a ninja!!! WTF!!!!!!!

      53. Delberto February 14, 2014 at 12:22 am

Closed minded idots you all are. If violence is the only drive for you to see a movie, I can see why kids continuously shoot up schools, movie theaters, and bomb marathons. People will complain about anything. It’s a remake yes and it shouldn’t look the same as the older one. Batman has been remade 5 times since i was a kid. Superman 3 times. Spiderman twice. James bond 3 times. Grow up people. Either enjoy the movie or go watch reruns and crappy reality tv shows at home.

        • Umk July 21, 2014 at 5:48 am

@delberto “I can see why kids continuously shoot up schools and movie theaters”… No you can’t , you just think you can and like to spout nonsense. 18 to 25 year olds involved in some of the non school shootings aren’t kids, first off and the correct answer to the school shooting scenario causes is a combination of psychopathy , or other mental illness (yes adolescents are not immune to being crazy and violent by nature) and gun access. Those rare few that are crazy don’t need some sort of scape goat to make them do the things 99 percent of people would not do). Those rare specimens having access to guns so they can mow down 50 people however makes it a big problem when even one person goes nuts. Just like in these gun filled yet near bloodless PG 13 movies there is the idea that guns are fine, good fun, and toys but the violence is bad and not related to having guns. we want to separate the notion of horror , gore and violence from them so the gun fights can be kid friendly family fun ? Seriously how screwed up is that ? Just think about it for a second. Then of course we can blame something other than our love affair with guns right and the fact anyone seems to be able to get their hands on them for what happens as a result. Even if your statement about movies causing shootings wasn’t total fantasy (hint it’s lack of gun control that actually is to blame and it’s the notion that you can make every one of over 3 billion people in a society well adjusted non violent and sane enough to have guns available on a whim simply by not showing violence and consequences in adult oriented cinema that is idiotic ) I fail to see how a PG 13 movie for “children” where people spray bullets then targets dance from the impact then have a bloodless unremarkable nap time on screen that glosses over say the death of 12 characters as clean fun /action of no consequence with no moral reflection what so ever from any of the characters whom step over the mass body’s after a cool sanitized gore-less mass shoot out , would be preferable to an R rated movie that is watched by adults which depicts even a small portion of the horror , disgust and revulsion associated with acts of violence such as a shooting in the real world.
