Watch Trailer for Christian Horror Film The Lock In

I haven’t heard of a “christian” horror film in a long time. I think the last one I even remember writing anything about was Thr3e which I never saw when it eventually came out. That film was not what I would call “overtly christian” though.

Let me be clear when I say this I have no problem with that. But personally, I don’t like to be hit over the head with a theme. Just look at how entertaining a George Romero movie can be and still be loaded with social commentary.

This film, however, looks to be heavy-handed with its message.. The Lock In. In the film a couple of boys find a porno mag and decide to bring it into the lock in with them. When the doors lock up, the demons come in through the viewing of said material. The producers have commented:

The demon is a metaphor for the true damage pornography can have in the lives of youth. There are never graphic or pornographic images shown in the movie. The producers of the film felt that it was important to tell a Christian story about real issues but to keep the images family friendly so anyone could be entertained without fear of exposure to questionable pictures.”

This is, of course, a found footage film that is made up of footage that was captured that night. It has now been made available “in full cooperation with the families and individuals involved.” Check it out below and let us know what you think below.. Yay or nay?

Every good horror movie is a morality tale and a comedy to boot. Without seeing the film, I find the overt messaging to be be a possible boon to the terror produced in many viewers, particularly the young and unsophisticated kids at whom it is most likely pitched. Many of my best memories of film terror were provided by the weird movies produced for the Catholic School System, and while they seem quite absurd to me today, it remains a joy to see them again, and find that they can still ignite the existential excitement of a good scare.

As for porn–well, it IS evil.

The trailer is practically the same as the “Graveyard Encounters” trailer. Time for the next thing on horror, found footage era is definetely over.
