The Devils Due Flops at the Box Office

Herner Klenthur 44 Comments Movie Page: Devil’s Due (2014)

The Devils Due landed with a thump at the box office landing at number seven and bringing in $8million. Not a horrible number but given its budget of $7million I would suspect the studio expected more.

This is normally where we would point you to our review of the film but we simply do not have one. For some odd reason nobody on our team had the heart to go and see it and review it. ( If you are reading this and want to write reviews for us we might have a place for you contact us via scoops@horror-movies.ca )

The Devils Due stars Allison Miller and Zach Gilford. After a mysterious, lost night on their honeymoon, a newlywed couple finds themselves dealing with an earlier-than-planned pregnancy. While recording everything for posterity, the husband begins to notice odd behavior in his wife that they initially write off to nerves, but, as the months pass, it becomes evident that the dark changes to her body and mind have a much more sinister origin.

I see Fox have blocked the video on your website on copyright grounds, how wise of them… After all seeing a trailer means nothing eh?

I guess they want to get as much positive attention as possible from horror fans. *note sarcasm* thanks for letting us know I am going to leave it up just so people see that.

THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!! Hopefully this is a sign that the “found footage” hype is getting tired…..I guess the jokes on me…I didn’t even know DEVIL’S DUE was a found footage film!?!? They need to stop making these movies, I got tricked! That funny youtube baby video had me wanting to see it, which you don’t even see in the film!? Good marketing strategy. Ok so the premise of the movie was decent, although it’s basically taken from Rosemary’s Baby but found footage style, no real big scares, took forever to get interesting, Overall it was mostly just the stages of a woman’s pregnancy with the odd “weird thing” happening to her that is not normal, it wasn’t even as good as Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones which doesn’t say much….Nothing interesting until the last 7-10 minutes, the camera is so shaky in this movie you get motion sickness, it’s jumping vertically, horizontally like someone spinning around on a fair ride. There are also camera’s staged in the house (like paranormal Activity) WHY not film the movie normally?? The same style applies to this movie like the other movies. I hope this found footage style dies off soon, the teat has been milked dry.

I’m gonna see it, but then, I go and see every horror/thriller style film that is ever released pretty much.

      11. Lynden Rimmer January 20, 2014 at 1:14 pm

It’s so bad…it made PA: The marked ones, look great!!

Yeah and I didn’t care much for The Marked Ones either, but it was still better than this movie!

      12. Ian Tombstone Jones January 20, 2014 at 1:17 pm

        :O

      13. Amanda Lester January 20, 2014 at 1:18 pm

I’m just wondering, if you take out all the “it’s been done before” criticism and watch it purely for entertainment value, is it worth a watch? I kind of still want to see it even though all found footage movies are pretty predictable. I love critiquing and analyzing movies but sometimes it’s good to just not overthink it. I don’t know, thoughts? Haha

      14. Brett Evans January 20, 2014 at 1:57 pm

found footage and possession movies just need to die there way over done

      15. Jeremy Arruda January 20, 2014 at 2:14 pm

If you have never seen Rosemary’s baby and are pretty much a newb to the horror genre, you might be somewhat entertained here. However if you are following Horror – Movies.Ca, chances are you have done your homework. In this case, this is nothing new or special here. It’s spectacularly underwhelming and goes down the checklist of all the usual stuff you’ve seen from found footage and all the lame new possession movies. This is a total “wait until it hits FX or something on TV” because you are not going to want to pay to watch it.

      16. Eve Kolm January 20, 2014 at 2:33 pm

I knew it would should of been direct to DVD

      17. Jyces Campeau January 20, 2014 at 3:02 pm

Seen it on the weekend. Not worth it at all.

      18. Mirza Baig January 20, 2014 at 3:30 pm

        Sucks

      19. Jesse Lane Moore January 20, 2014 at 3:30 pm

Good… But it won’t stop anything. Found footage movies are made on a dime which is why we get so many… It’s cheap quick and can make easy profit from it.

      20. Chucky January 20, 2014 at 3:32 pm

Hi there I’m Chucky Would you like my page?

      21. RJ De Wit January 20, 2014 at 3:47 pm

Could have told you that without seeing anything other than 3 seconds of the trailer.

      22. Julie Tracy January 20, 2014 at 3:49 pm

I usually love even the horror movies that bomb at the theater but this one was awful! I don’t feel they let on that it was a found footage movie, which I do not mind necessarily, but this was just 95% boring and nothing happening! Only a couple of good scenes during the last parts of the movie and even those could not make up for the rest of the time. Not even good for free at 3am on a boring weeknight when it is on the sci-fi channel in a year….

      23. Ramiro Herrera Jr. January 20, 2014 at 4:05 pm

It was ok – until the cameras were installed in the house.. then it was Paranormal Activity again without any Paranormal Activity….

      24. Lee Stacy January 20, 2014 at 4:09 pm

Im not sure you can making almost $10 million on opening weekend is a flop. I haven’t seen it yet but its already made back the money they spent producing the film and everything from this point on his purely profit. Id be willing to bet they don’t consider that a flop and I don’t either.

      25. James Kelley January 20, 2014 at 4:10 pm

I love horror movies. But I hate old tired cheaply done horror movies

      26. Justin Evans January 20, 2014 at 4:19 pm

I knew it was a shitty movie

      27. James Willbanks January 20, 2014 at 4:23 pm

Lara Baranovsky read all these comments.

      28. James Jay Edwards January 20, 2014 at 5:00 pm

Even if you take away the Rosemary’s Baby meets Paranormal Activity theme, it’s a bad movie. Confusing as hell with tons of plot holes and loose ends. I expected more from the Radio Silence guys. Don’t waste your money. If you’re curious, it shouldn’t be long before it’s on Netflix or cable.

      29. John Ward January 20, 2014 at 5:18 pm

I saw it the other day. It wasn’t great, but I liked it.

      30. Katharine Francis January 20, 2014 at 5:42 pm

Yeah I saw it the day it came out and it felt like it was a cross between Paranormal Activity and Rosemary’s Baby. It wasn’t bad but it also wasn’t the best.

      31. Martin Biliski January 20, 2014 at 6:06 pm

Movie wasnt worth seeing jn theater people should just wait and rent it for way cheaper

      32. Allen Mozak January 20, 2014 at 6:09 pm

I saw it last night. The movie drags out for 45 mins with really not much happening…Basically wedding/honeymoon/getting pregnant. No real horror to speak of. A few video clips lead you to believe that they were drugged on the honeymoon at some off the grid nightclub. I wouldn’t recommend it. However they did leave it open for more to come! But judging by the bad reviews I doubt we will ever see PART II.

      33. Dick Dastardlee January 20, 2014 at 6:25 pm

        so stillborn?

      34. Faith Rightout January 20, 2014 at 7:29 pm

Knew it would. Not enough marketing not enough exposure.

      35. Macho JJ Cordero January 20, 2014 at 7:47 pm

These stupid demon movies are getting old..seriously Hollywood think of something new already …

      36. Joey Short January 20, 2014 at 8:54 pm

Love the genre but I need something original. Rehash is getting old fast.

      37. Phillip Berryman January 20, 2014 at 9:51 pm

Maybe bc it was basically a remake to PA: The Marked Ones and PA:MO blew ass!

      38. JeffC January 20, 2014 at 10:13 pm

Glad I passed on it today. I thought it was a mix of found footage and “real”. Either way doesn’t sound like it was very good.

BTW guys when trying to connect to Facebook it seems to be having issues when trying to comment so just using my email and name.

      39. Jordan Allen January 20, 2014 at 10:39 pm

you mean you couldn’t tell by the ads the movie was gonna be lame??

      40. Devan January 20, 2014 at 10:54 pm

This movie is absolutely nothing like it was advertised to be. It wasn’t scary and just about everything was a cliché. In the end, a house turned out to be abandoned for ten years (heard that way too many times in paranormal movies, right?) and a doctor didn’t work at the hospital or any surrounding hospitals. It’s just another paranormal movie where you think “gee, didn’t see that coming a mile away.” Please do not waste your money.

      41. Princess Sims January 21, 2014 at 2:41 am

Can they please give up the “found” footage. It is over done. Enough already!

      42. Robert Ratkowski January 21, 2014 at 5:33 am

I personally don’t care what a movie does at the box office. Some of the worst movies have done really well in the theaters. It is all a matter of taste.
