Poltergeist Remake Will Hit Theaters in 2015

Jason McDonald

20th Century Fox has given it’s upcoming “Poltergeist” remake a definitive release date.  To quote a certain horror movie: “They’re nearly here, as long as Fox doesn’t decide to mess with the date.” Wait, that’s not right. I’ll come back to it.

“Poltergeist” will hit theaters on February 13th, 2015. The very first Friday the 13th of 2015, spooky!  “Poltergeist” may face some stiff competition at the box office, though, as the “50 Shades of Grey” movie opens on the same day.  The new remake is being directed by Gil Kenan and stars Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Jared Harris.

The upcoming film is, of course, a remake of the of the classic 1982 Tobe Hooper film about a family besieged by spirits.  The remake is taking a different approach to story by making it about a family struggling to make ends meet  that relocate to an outdated suburban home.  Unfortunately, the house is haunted and an evil spirit kidnaps their daughter.  We’ll be hearing more about the movie in the year to come.

Why all of the remakes! Over half of them aren’t even needed. ‘Poltergeist’ shouldn’t be remade, period

      17. Billy BlackFeather January 15, 2014 at 5:30 am

      20. Eric Miles January 15, 2014 at 5:33 am

Not watching. Absolutely refuse to see this abomination. Poltergeist the original is a perfect film. Not seeing it.

      21. Oopsie Worth January 15, 2014 at 5:35 am

Most the the time I don’t make it through remakes. Why not just watch the original one. It’s like reading a book someone has plagiarized and you know it while your are reading it(because you have read the real writer’s book), maybe a few changes here and there. We would never even think it was Ok to rewrite someone writing but with movies it OK.

      22. Adrian Ortmueller January 15, 2014 at 5:36 am

another remake….get some fresh ideas people…read a book, comic, graphic novel anything instead of rehashing the same old shit

      23. James McDonald January 15, 2014 at 5:36 am

I’m disappointed in the change of release date to February 2015. That’s usually when they release the crappy movies the studios feel will not be a major success. Poltergeist will be clobbered by 50 Shades of Grey Part 1. You know, I might eat my words. 50 Shades of Grey might become a major hit.

      24. TJ Bailey January 15, 2014 at 5:36 am

No remake needed it will never top the tobe/Spielberg original. Sorry but it’s the truth.

      25. Reuben Hernandez January 15, 2014 at 5:37 am

        I’m done. F u Hollywood

      26. Tracey Leturno January 15, 2014 at 5:38 am

Why the fuck are they remaking yet another classic movie that doesn’t need to be remade? With all the writers in Hollywood can’t they make new movies instead of making sucky remakes of great movies that should never have been remade in the first place., wtf

      27. Kimberly Parilese Adams January 15, 2014 at 5:38 am

      28. Vanessa L Murphy Smith January 15, 2014 at 5:41 am

that is so retarted they need to come up with something totally differnt then makeing the same old stuff over and over again i wont pay to watch it thats waste of money

      29. Laura La Belle January 15, 2014 at 5:45 am

Ok, the effects are a little cheesy (mainly the guy peeling off his face) but, it could never be the same. They don’t even have static on T.V. anymore. They’re heeeeere! Way scarier than Paranormal Activity.

      30. Billie Jo Hebb January 15, 2014 at 5:57 am

I love tht movie it was awesome..

      31. David Leavitt January 15, 2014 at 5:57 am

Nobody should give these fucking remakes a break! They are all crap! The people that should be getting the break are original and independent filmmakers who actually come up with fresh, original ideas that will never see a big screen because mindless fucking retards keep paying to see the same old shit!

        • D.j. Clement January 15, 2014 at 6:14 am

i’ve maintained that instead of studios spending $50 – $100 million on remakes, what they should do is rerelease the original films in theaters for limited runs…. I’ve seen Jaws a thousand times on TV, and own 3 versions of it – but I would pay to go see it on the big screen if rereleased..

i dont know, smh – i understand Hollywood has been remaking films for almost 75 years, but it’s gotten to obscene levels nowadays…. maybe once all these old dinosaurs running the show die off, and some new blood is put in place – maybe, just maybe they can breed some new ideas..

      32. Margaret Halperin January 15, 2014 at 6:04 am

More like a sequel, huh? Ya do know, there are two other crappy sequels, right?

      33. Eliza Tenhet January 15, 2014 at 6:05 am

I thought the Amityville horror remake was pretty good.

      34. Prissy Aviles January 15, 2014 at 6:10 am

Great. Another couple of hours of computer generated crap with abysmal acting. “Hollywood” needs to get their own material and stop effing with the classics already.

      35. Frankie Rodriguez January 15, 2014 at 6:31 am

Like what Neve Campbell said in Scream 4 never f@#k with the original….but who knws it could be a worthy effort there have been some decent remakes that came out but could never live up to the originals.

      36. Jackie Kincaid January 15, 2014 at 7:51 am

I love all 3 of the original Poltergeist movies. The 1st holds special memories for me. My older sister & I loved watching it together. We lost her on my birthday 2010. But I always think of her & the fun we had when I watch the original.

      37. Dagger Deep January 15, 2014 at 8:04 am

        Garbage Day!!

      38. Ustu Mallagam January 15, 2014 at 8:10 am

People should just boycott remakes like this.

      39. Raymond Semanisin January 15, 2014 at 8:39 am

They must be short on writers in Hollywood. They keep making remakes. We really need some new original ideas for horror movies.

I don’t think i’d wanna watch it…..like everyone else is saying why remake it? -___-

      43. Edward King January 15, 2014 at 10:36 am

As Christopher King says , ”What was wrong with the original??”. Really, what is the point in remaking movies that still work well today and have dated ?! There is none except trying to make money off a brand name that younger generations have heard of, but seriously, how many of these horror remakes have done with the exception of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Dawn of the Dead ? I truely believe that the young die hard horror fan will root out the classic and watch it !

      44. Vivian Raffeala Kasley January 15, 2014 at 10:57 am

I love the original. I also will watch the new one. I would like to see what they do with it.

      45. Jeanette Rosenmejer Hansen January 15, 2014 at 11:10 am

      47. Safy E Ebrahim January 15, 2014 at 4:24 pm

        Noooooooooo no remakes not again

      48. john croom January 15, 2014 at 7:38 pm

Please don’t. The original was great. But don’t you remember all of the unlucky accidents and events that surounded these movies.

      49. Swizz January 15, 2014 at 10:16 pm

Lame…..Hollywood can’t come up with any new ideas
